It can be a simple 30-30, AR, AK, nice bolt action...ect. In whatever caliber you want, with whatever optics you want.....money is not an issue.
Go.

If I am specifically going hog hunting, I carry 1 of 2 guns. An AR-10 for normal stand hunting for rapid re-engagement, or a Marlin lever gun in 44 mag for CQB hogs, from like a bow stand or spot and stalk.

FN-FAL. Does it all, with a bang. And AK-like reliability.

I have been particularly happy with a .45-70 Marlin 1895, even more so with night vision, but I think my ideal would be a semi-auto comparable caliber like maybe a .50 Beowulf, Bushmaster .450, or .458 Socom, but I am in no hurry to replace the Marlin. It performs very well. The other guns would just be a bit better.

Marlin 1895 in 45-70 will be my next purchase. With a low powered leupold scope one top. Those things just scream hog killer.

I had a 1895 and really liked it, but I was a bit off put by the trajectory and capacity. I sold it after a little research- sighting the gun in 3" high at 100 with 300 gr bullets pushing 1900 fps (pretty stout load) leaves it 8" low at 200 yds.

I love my 6.8. Ammo is high like KC said but it is a great hog round.

300 sav in a model 99 featherweight wearing a 1.5x5 vari x III. I have one and it will put three pretty stout handloads shooting a 150 grain BT into an inch all day long. It is about the perfect velocity to make a BT shine, and while it is just a tool, it is a cool tool.
America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

My dream Hog Gun is an AR (either DPMS or LMT) in .308 with a silencer and Jager Pro Thermal vision optics. Laser and flashlight mounted as well.
