Sure but won't be as easy as a scope with higher magnification.

you might want to consider at least a 4 x 12

I would say a 4x12 is better for prairie dogs. You will be shooting in full sunlight so do not worry about the lens objective, go for the highest magnification. Also get a scope that has a good parallax adjustment.

My dad always used a 6-24x50.. He was a dedicated prairie dog guy.. Even had 2 rifles that when the barrel got hot on one changed over to the other.

I did fine with a 4-16 X SFP for 2 years out to 500 yards. This year I'm going with a 6-24 X FFP.

More magnification is better, but it's only easily useful when mirage isn't screwing everything up. It doesn't take a whole lot of heat to distort the image of a distant target. IMO, a 6-18x with AO is about ideal for long range varmint sniping. I think 4-16x is probably second best, but not by much.

At 300+yds with a 12x, the reticle lines are about the same width as the dog! smile
I think youd be happier with something going up to atleast 16x.
