Caulk and paint should help, it certainly won't hurt. If all else fails get some hardie board trim they will play hell with that. Good luck

Might be woodpeckers. Hardi board makes a 1x3 or 1x4 that will solve your problem. I have yet to have a woodpecker hit the hardi and I've built a few of them. I've had them hit wood right away.
Nice blind by the way.

Have you tried putting an plastic owl/hawk decoy on the roof?
It seems to work with crows. I wonder if it would work with woodpeckers?

Definetly woodpeckers. That is why I do not like wooden blinds. IMO I think the woodpeckers are after wasps, bugs or lady bugs they can hear crawling around on the inside of the blind. They especially love cedar trim. Get you a ProZap pest strip to hang in your blind and change it out right before deer season. It won't keep wasps out but will kill them if they get into it overnight.

That's a great first build. My first build is still standing and sturdy as all get out. Don't know how though. It looks dangerous as hell.

Thanks fellas! The stand is built with 3x3 angle iron & my buddy did all the welding on it. Came out pretty damn good & is pretty heavy.

What do you guys think is the best way to anchor this blind down to the ground? Going to attach the actual blind to the stand with some lag bolts but need to anchor it down some way to prevent from tipping over with high winds.
"Pig Out", the windows were bought from a local hardware store for less than 20 bucks a piece if I remember right.

The blind looks great! Isn't your commute to the trailer a little far. It could be 50 yards! I am jealous of a well that close.
