If not for "deer hunting purposes" why the push to get them legalized, now they can no longer be linked to just leisure shooting and varmint control; the door was opened and there will be folks who have never had an interest in them purchase for the main reason of "deer hunting" as has been expressed in several threads lately. (AKA a streamlined tax to the Feds) I know, I know... Ppl could buy them prior, but what will an increase in apps suggest?
Once again, change is not necessarily good nor is it always progress and the effects usually show up on down the road. We could go on all week and probably all year and you cannot be proven wrong and I cannot be proven wrong; currently it is what it is and we shall see.

What is the point of a sub sonic load... That's boring

I'd be willing to bet that there are folks both for and skeptical on this thread who have never shot a suppressor. What you see on TV or YouTube does no justice to what they actually sound like. Before I bought mine in 2008, I went to a suppressor shoot and judged for myself.
While subsonic loads can be "paintball gun" quiet, they do have significant deer hunting limitations. You are launching a big bullet really slow out of the barrel, and the terminal ballistics are poor. In my case, we hunt the kids in a stand that has a 50 yard max shot, so that matters less, but supers are still the right ethical choice for most situations especially beyond 100 yards. When shooting at a pig, I'd argue that most people really don't care if the animal is DRT or runs off and dies, so shooting a sub at them to increase the POSSIBILITY of a second shot on the herd is an advantage, but rarely is the herd going to ignore the round impacts around them and allow for more than 2-3 well aimed shots.
On the deer/predator side, putting a can on a supersonic round will decrease the crack enough to make it bearable to hunt without hearing protection, and is SIGNIFICANTLY less intimidating for a childor novice to shoot due to the decreased recoil and CRACK. That is all the reason in the world to rejoice over this decision. However, I can assure you that deer who jump and run at the sound of a bow string will NOT offer a second shot to a suppressed supersonic round, they are just not that quiet. In most cases 130+ decibles.
Overall, I'd say anyone who wants to weigh in on this should spend some time around suppressors first. Don't be negative in "theory". Watch them in action. They DO add value and versatility to deer hunting in certain situations, and this IS a step toward liberty in a time when the country seems determined to go the other direction. Night vision is legal now, and I'm certain that poachers use it. I'm also sure that folks have and will use suppressors illegaly. That fact is irrelevant to anyone who understands liberty.

Those that are against this are of the typical Fudd mentality, and have zero interest in furthering the shooting and hunting sports for the future. Its either sour grapes that they can't afford a can, are lease "managers" that get off on control, or have absolutely no idea what a can does.
There are only positives to this ruling, no negatives. Those that think it will increase poaching, but aren't against hunting with a bow, fail to think rationally. Which is quieter? Which is easier to get?
Come on Fudds, get over yourselves, and join the rest of us in quiet celebration. This is a great development...especially for those of us that hunt with our kids.
Agree completely. Fudds already tried to go after AR15's, saying they have no place in hunting yadadadadda. Black rifles are by far the most popular guns in America now. Fudds fail again.

Well its hard to say but congratulations for those who are for suppressors. For the record I would NOT have lobbied against it or voted against it, I just don't agree with it, my opinion. So if I ticked anyone off again it was not meant to be personal, so y'all enjoy!!

Do I have to buy one before I can submit my Form 4? YES, You MUST buy one before you can submit a Form 4. You will buy the Silencer from your dealer (Pay for it all up front). He Gets to KEEP IT, You will not be allowed to take it. You will fill out the Form 4 and do all the hoops to get the BATF to approve it. Once approved and about A YEAR later, your dealer will get your Tax Stamp. He will call you at that time so you can pick it up. If you buy a Silencer TODAY, by the time you get all the paper work done, send it to the BATF and go through the process. It will be approximately FEBRUARY of 2013 before you will get it back. You won't be hunting with a silencer this year.

I bought one in .22 I had so much fun with it I bought one in. 30 cal. I am waiting on my third one now. I will likely use mine for does when we have to thin out our herd, however, it is awesome with a night scope for pigs. Multiple shots etc. I think if people try one they would like it. My 308 sounds like my air gun when i was a kid. Just my. 02

"If you take the item across state lines, YOU MUST notify the BATF before you DO." This actually doesn't apply for suppressors. But it does for other NFA items like machine guns and SBR's and SBS's.

can someone explain whats the be deal with silencers?
dont they still scare the animals if you shoot? please tell me what im missing. im be serious as well. maybe im not thinking right now Here's a situation where it's good... you are in your stand and you have a huge mess of hogs that come in. You are sick of these bastages but don't want to take a shot at them b/c the second you do, your deer hunting is through for the day. If you were to throw a suppressed sub sonic round...or 10 at the hogs it would be very quiet and not scare off any deer at all. ok, i few qesutions first off i didnt think silencers were that much softer than a normal round. Ive shot many times and seen deer easy within the day or even few minutes. it just doesnt make any sence, also if there was a group of pigs odds are that there would be any deer and the hogs would run off the deer.

What's been funny on other sites are idiots are running to buy them to find out after all is said and done they can't put it on their "hunting" rifle. Myself, owning and shooting with a suppressor for numerous reasons, not just bc it's legal, is irritating to see a bunch of morons jump on the bandwagon. Not only have they increased the wait time to a proposed year, prices will likely increase, posts asking to thread a savage axis, which suppressor is best will flood all these sites. Those of us that aren't on any bandwagon do the research, shop for months, pester our dealers, shoot them before we buy, know HOW to use a search function and dont try to thread pencil barrels. Rant off

After the initial surge & price spike there will be lots of them for sale & prices should actually go down as more are out in circulation & the frenzy subsides a bit.
This "Bandwagon" is likely one of the best ever to unfudd more folks. Give folks a chance to learn, instead of calling everyone who is not as informed as you idiots. Just a thought..

YES! My Plan is falling into place, 3 months ago sent in for stamp on my .308 can and a .45 can ( for my 10 mm) building my 3 rd 300 Blackout, this one will have a 9" barrel and SBR paperwork is already in process! Yep going to be a "quite " hunting season. Oh I forgot my .308 Rem is threaded for it to, with my loads it's not as loud as my pellet gun.

Being able to use a can is gonna be real nice for shooting my back yard deer I have one neighbor with kids that is relatively close to me, so I don't shoot any big guns around the homestead out of respect for them (don't wanna freak them out-yes I'm legal). I've been using my crossbow for deer around the house but it's can time now! Sign me up!! As far as hunting down at the ranch or elsewhere...I'll still be using a good ol' fashioned deer rifle at those ranges that goes BANG when I squeeze one off.
