Are they still making these or is everyone just selling new old stock? I'm eventually wanting to build a general purpose .308 off one of these, but I'm not quite ready to snag one. I don't want them to disappear though...
For those who have them, how flimsy is the stock?

the stock is trash guns are good but a savage is a nicer action they are the (same) but a savage action will be more (true) also the receiver itself is actually round where the stevens is out of round externally

This rifle just keeps coming back to me every time I think about a 200. I see potential...

For those who have them, how flimsy is the stock? You will still have plenty of old 110's to choose from.

Academy is done with the tan stock version and somehow everyone that bought them is now trying to make $100 on them. But if you could find one of the 7mm-08 you could scrap the barrel and not get whatever barrel you please.
The bottom metal/magazine combo there will cost as much as your action.
Not sure how you feel about the accutrigger but the stock stevens 200 trigger comes really bad. It is allen wrench adjustable but not nearly enough so decide if you want a newer savage to build on with it or it doesn't matter between the stevens old savage.

That's not a bottom metal, that's an M1A mag inletted into the factory stock and epoxied in place.

Ah ok well there are a few companies out there that make a 10 rd detachable mag for savages but they get nearly $200 for the bottom metal and magazine. Then you would at least be able to remove it.

Is adjustable but there is a fine line between backing off on the spring pressure and accidential discharge by bumping it. I know, I have 2 of them. Like them but you just have to be careful not to back off too much.

I just purchased a Stevens 200 a couple of months ago. The trigger had no weight adjustment what so ever, just a spring there and an overtravel adjustment.
Droped a Rifle Basix trigger in mine and now I have zero creep, Zero Overtravel, and set at 1 lbs. Shoots less than 1" all day long, still trying to find a few sweet spot loads.

The factory Stevens 200 trigger is Allen wrench adjustable? I've had a couple of them. But yes as mentioned they start at about 8 pounds you can get them into the 5 pound range safely then 3.5-4 not so safely. That won't cut it for shooting groups.

KC, I have one in 7mm-08. Your welcome to stop by to take a look at and shoot it if you want. I've had better luck with my trigger then some of the others have posted. But Joe bought one at the same store on the same day and he never could do much with his trigger, they must be hit or miss. The stock is pretty bad, but it goes bang every time I pull the trigger and I get around 1 to 1.5 inch groups with it so I cant complain to much.

building on a savage 200 is like making a hot rod out of a Ford Pinto....all the $$ you throw at it, when just a little more and you can build off something with more intrinsic value.
Forum says "Veteran Tracker". I could not track a garbage truck into a fireworks factory.

Heck I need to stop by just on principle, we haven't shot anything in a couple months!

lol, more like the bondo-body pintos we can afford... here is my line of reasoning: 150 to 250 more on the action (example, Howa - $330 to $400 new) own the gun 2 years. that is about $10.50 a month .. and it should keep better resell value.

When you have 15+ "hotrods" sitting around, with lord knows how much intrinsic value, a supped up pinto becomes more interesting...
