How/when is the best way to contact them?
What is their cabin like?
What is their local motel like?
How does one find their 'specials' on facebook?
thanks, capt david

Give Danny (the owner) a call on his cell phone. His number is (512) 635-0641. If he doesn't answer, leave him a voicemail and he'll call you back. He's always called me back when we were discussing options for a hunt.

My understanding is that hardly anybody stays at their cabin - it is very "rustic" to say the least. I stayed at the Cedar Creek Inn in Betram. It was literally like a 5 minute drive from the hunting ranch. Good clean accommodations and pretty cheap. I believe the rate is $50/day if you tell them you're hunting at DB (they have worked out a special rate). Here's a link to their website:

http://www.cedarcreekinntx.com/

And here's the link to their Facebook page. I've found that if they're running any specials they always post them here on THF.

I went on an oryx hunt at DB two weeks ago - so if you have any questions just let me know.

I stayed in the "cabin" I wouldnt suggest it unless you dont mind a true rustic stay lol. I slept with the door open over night to get some air in it. But yep cedar creek not bad. stayed there as well. I know the are working on some new cabin so cant wait for that

How was the hunting at the DB? I am looking to book a ram hunt but I have not found a ranch yet. I am looking for something that is some sort of a challenge and not a "canned" hunt.

I'll have a report next weekend. Going there for my first time with them after a fallow. Still haven't made up my mind on where I'm staying, better call the hotel most likely. Earl

My friend and his son both went and killed their rams at the feeders fairly quickly from the direction the guide said just like he described down to the T. These guys do their homework, know the animals, and know their patterns like no other. I have been there once for hogs and it was in the dead of summer. didn't see any hogs morning or evening so we were asked back on them at a later date to kill our pigs. TOP NOTCH PLACE in my opinion!!!

Definitely stay at the hotel. The cabin is a shack smile. Good place if you have a camper on your truck etc.

We went there hog hunting and never saw any hogs morning or evening either. We were invited back as well.

Good luck! I'm hunting with them tomorrow for a fallow (and a hog if I see one in the morning) so will post up on the oryx I see. After the posts here I decided to book at the hotel, I like my TV and my comforts as I get older smile Earl

Not bad at all. I hadn't intended to stay for two nites so didn't have lodging for last night. There was a wedding so the hotel was booked. I stayed in the cabin last night. Slept like a baby. Actually, prbably because of hunting all day I actually slept alot better than I had in the hotel the night before. Oh, and only killed one bug and it wasnt' a spider!

Hope ETX gets his oryx tomorrow. Do you know if the lady got hers this evening?

Earl

I had a BAD experience with DB Ranch. I found good reviews about their hunting on the net, so I thought I'd give them a try. I was going to be in Texas for a couple of days, and emailed to book a hog hunt. They emailed back and said no problem - they could get me in on either day. They gave me a phone number to call. I called. No answer and voicemail full. I sent another email, and they said they'd call me that night. No call. When I got into town, I called again. I left a message saying I was in town and wanted to confirm that they could still get me in. You got it . . . no call back. Called the day before I hoped/planned to hunt - someone answered this time. Of course he said he could not get me in now, arghhhh! I said they told me there would be no problem. He said he'd see what he could do and call me back within a hour. No call back - go figure. I'm all the way down here, and no where to hunt. DB Ranch stinks!!!

Are you sure?

Did you give him a deposit, and actually book a hunt or did you just show up?

The hogs are pretty thin out there right now, I am pretty sure DB did not screw you but, I will be happy call Danny and fix the issue for you as I am a Colorado guy too, but come on.....

I tried - I really tried, but they would not call me back or give me a way to leave a deposit. They said they would get me in, and I took them for their word. I didn't pursue any other hunting options because I took them seriously and believed they were just busy but will get back to me.

I felt confident they would come through, so I went ahead and took several days off to make the drive down and hunt. I've never been to Texas before and I don't know if or when I'll have an opportunity to come back down and hunt. Lessons learned.

In all fairness - someone from the ranch called me late last night after I posted the above comments. They apologized, and said the hunting was not very good right now anyway. I appreciated the call - I just wished they had let me know before I came down so I could have tried to make other arrangements with a different outfit.

Late last night I to tried to find another outfit to try and get in a hunt, but I wasn't able to find anyone at 10pm who could get me in at dawn the next morning. I leave for Colorado tomorrow morning . . . hopefully I'll get another chance to come down and try again in the future.

I don't like to bash another man or his outfit, but I feel I have a valid concern and frustration here.

I suggest next year talk to www.kentoutdoors.com if you are staying in DFW area. He can usually work you in late notice too.

I agree I don't like to bash an outfit.

Went there a few weeks ago too. I had problems of return emails and messages.

Stayed at the hotel. Ok hotel, nice people. Ok for the price. Someone mentioned TV. No TV on second floor smile

The cabins are more like large sheds. They were really dirty and I'm glad I didn't go that route.

That morning In the dark there was a horrible smell which I found out later was guts from I guess the day before or longer. I don't mean a few I mean a huge pile! Got to watch chickens and a cat eat that for a while later that morning while waiting. I'm sorry but when I have a cleaning station.....I think it should be clean.

Opened one of the coolers which was really an ice cooler to see an axis jammed in there.

While hunting saw some lame animals. One could barely walk. Saw one with a huge wound on the back leg. Might be the only ones there Like that but they should be put down.

The "stand" was in bad shape. A new sheet of plyboard for the floor is cheap. There were huge holes in the floor.

Never saw or talked to Danny one time while there. Three different people during the day.

Nice they offered for us to return since we saw zero hogs. But when talking before the trip it was mentioned that in the morning we would try to get a meat hog and then in the evening we would probably have to do some work to find a trophy hog. That was the conversation. Even tried to confirm that via email before leaving but no rely to two emails. No call back either. I called again and finally got an answer to confirm.

Anyway the hunt basically consisted of them dropping us off at the same stand morning and in the evening.

Went there because of the good reviews and their website. I'm sure they are good people. Just wished my experience would have been better smile

Couldn't ad this part to post. I was very appreciative of the offer to return and the offer to ad more hogs. That was very nice. Problem is that it's about a four hour drive and my time is pretty valuable. I just decided next hunt would be somewhere else. I hate to even post something negative but that is what forums are for which is to share info. Also it can help some improve. Things happen and like I said some others here have had good experiences.
