i have heard alot about exotic meats, but what about bear and moose meat, do they taste any good? what would you compare it to.

or are they just for trophies? im trying to plan a hunt for either both or one and this might help me make up my mind.

oh, im talking about black bear.

Black Bear is probably one of the best meats I've ever had.

Like anything preparation is the key. Although I've never had moose I've great things about it. Ive only ate bear with my cousin whom practically lives on it. His wife knows damn good and well how to cook it too. It was great to say e least. I'm a steak freek and have terrible steaks. It all depends on the way it's prepared. Learn to cook it and you'll enjoy both!

We cut up our own meat for everything except sausage - that we let a processor do

Took a Black Bear in Alberta in 2010. We ate it and gave some away but I can honestly say it was the worst game meat I ever ate. Don't think I want any more.

Moose meat is wonderful-among the finest there is.

Bear meat stinks-literally.

Moose is the finest game I have ever eaten and it was a roast.

For all the fuss people make about eating wild hogs, bears are actually responsible for 90% of the cases of diease transfered to humans from consuming wild game.

Mainly trichinosis and believe me you don't want any of that...

I caught a dose of that a couple of years ago in South America. Ended up having to go to infectious disease specialist at UT to diagnose. But by that time my body's defenses were already winning by producing a high amount of eosinophils.

Moose is the finest wild game you can feast on. Nearly 0% fat, so preparation is key. I've had plenty from steaks, roasts, sausage, and of course the delicious tender loins. Had tenderloins & lobster one christmas dinner - no one ate the lobster!
I have also had lots of bear, and I love it. Again, it comes down to preparing it. A spring killed bear is terrible, after hibernating all winter long. Yuk! But a spring bear has the best hair for a mount, thick & long. A fall bear that has been feasting on blueberries and healthy wild foods is delicious. But, you MUST remove all the fat & they have alot of it stored for the hibernation. All wild game should be cooked thoroughly as no-one knows that animals history.

So the old adage arises, if you don't eat them why shoot them? [auodad]

Good point. I shot my first deer this year that I didn't eat. Our freezer was full so I gave it to my buddy who didn't get to hunt last fall.

It would change your mind of you shot a ewe or male aoudad with horns 12" or less. The meat is awesome. Made great smoked sausage, summer sausage and hamburger. I gave some away to people who eat a lot of different types of game to try and they loved it too. I didn't tell them what it was until they ate it.

My preference on the hunt would be for Moose. They've got a lot of antler to admire

Cause they look good on the wall and coyotes and bobcats need to eat too confused2

I actually gave Kacees to someone who likes the meat
