If any corn gets out of the pen, they'll be hanging around your feeder all the time.

check into wildlife tax exemption in tax code suggest it to the owner if it will apply if i understand it right not too difficult to utilize , a feeder, some water, food plot, ect in other words i believe you need at least three improvements for wildlife and they have a list. but also if I remember right it has to have already been under ag exemption. Dont go on my memory tho...it has been known to be faulty sometimes...just a suggestion.

Sheep aren't as hard on the habitat as goats are. My experience has been that deer don't like to be around them in large groups. One ranch I work has a good water system and the troughs the sheep favor and collect at in large numbers are also the ones where you will practically never see a deer.
I think it has something to do with the smell of sheep over powering the deer's sense of smell, but have no scientific evidence of that.
Goats, btw are the ones that'll get their stupid heads stuck in the pen panels.
If your owner is bound and determined to put sheep on it, I would expound to him the virtues of whole cottonseed for sheep and get him to buy it. Your deer will benefit from it IF he only feeds for part of the year.

I hunted an 800acre place in Coreyell County several years ago that had around 100head of Sheep on it. The landowner fed the sheep every afternoon about the time we were headed out to hunt. The sheep stayed in the core area of the property and really only strayed from that area if one got sick and wandered off to die. We hunted more on the fringe of the property due to this, and we had great hunting on that place. And it seemed like every couple of years someone would take a really nice buck out of the core of the property, right where the sheep called home. The bigger smarter bucks used the sheep for cover.
I would not discount hunting around sheep completely. But if things are done right, I have seen where it doesn't have a huge impact on the deer hunting.

I hate sheep,Goats are even worse. Talk to the landowner about getting a wildlife valuation. If he already has Ag valuation it shouldn't be difficult. Go to TPWD website and find a biologist in the county you hunt, set up a time that he can meet you. He will come up with a site specific evaluation and write up his recommendations, then you can file the paperwork with the county. It sounds complicated but it really isn't difficult. Good luck.

x3 had a place in juno that was covered in sheep...big deer were killed on both neighbooring ranches and didnt see a single thing on this one...guess it depends on how many head there is...we also had a giant lease in Del Rio and it had a good bit of sheep but there was enough land to were you wouldnt see them in days sometimes weeks I hunted on one in Del Rio north of the lake as soon as you crossed the bridge he owned both sides of the road. And those suckers stunk to high heaven. I would be sitting on a hill side glassing and you would get a god awfull stench and then you would hear the bell and then you were surrounded by 100's of them. However there were some real nice deer taken off of this place.
