Didn't want to hijack the other M&P thread. Looking at the M&P, it looks a lot like a Glock. What are the primary differences? I own 1911s, DAO auto-loaders, and revolvers so I'm not married to any one brand. Just trying to decide whether to get another Glock or try the M&P. If they're basically the same, I'll prolly stick with Glock.

Do you want a full size or a sub compact?
Full size M&P is better, sub compact Glock is better, at least in my opinion.

Smith and Wesson has to pay royalty to Glock every time the M&P is sold. Both are very similar to each other.

Of the two choices given I would probably go with the Glock, if for no other reason than the overwhelming aftermarket support and sheer number of them out there.
Personally I like the Springfield XDm, but that's just me.

Thanks for the replies. I have a G31 and bought a 40 barrel for it but only shoot it at the range. I carry either a Colt Defender or an LCR; sometimes the 38 and sometimes the 357. I'm thinking of getting a sub-compact but have read that the G33 is kind of hard to hold. On that note, I was thinking about a 9mm but don't have any experience with it in a sub-compact. I want the most reliable CCW I can carry. That's why I usually carry a wheel gun. My Defender has never failed me. I should probably just break down and buy a 9mm Defender I guess.

I have not shot too many glocks, but my buddy has the M&P in 40 cal and I LOVE IT! Next to my USP it's my favorite pistol to shoot. Very smooth and surprisingly accurate. Can't say enough good things about them. For the price they are hard to beat.

It is a bit of a drive but if you are in plano sometime with time to kill stop by BulletTrap. You can rent the ones you have talked about for not too much and try them out on the range. Khar is another brand you might want to consider.

Both are extremely reliable and serve many LEOs around America. Have no fear when buying either. I would also throw the XD's in with the bunch. Whats your primary use going to be? Sound like CC, no? If it is going to be used as a CC the glock 26 and M&p 9c are very similar, just like the rest of their models. The m&p comes with the adjustable backstrap(as do gen 4 glocks) and since you sound like a 1911 guy, they sell one with a 1911 style safety(not my cup of tea, but some like this feature). I carry a glock 26, and I will tell you that you are not going to get a traditional grip on it(without a +2 extension), but I do just fine with my index finger, middle finger, ring finger and thumb. The S&W should come with 2 mags, one with at flat baseplate and one with at extension. They will send you another extension if you decide you dont like the flat baseplate.

Never shot the MP but they feel awesome. MP, HK p30, and Sig ergo grip are similar feeling to me.

Never shot a M&P but shot a G36 and would have no problem if I had to CC with it.I added a +1 extession and I have small hands,it does have some jump being a sub and limited mag cap. but zero problems and simple to operate.

A trip to the bullet trap is probably my best bet. Originally I had thought to go with the G36. For whatever reason, I seem to be able to shoot a 45 more accurately than other calibers. Actually, I really like the SA 1911s but for a CCW, I'm leery of the trigger pull. It takes incredibly little pressure to fire my Defender. If I drew it shooting, that would be fine. But if I drew it and the situation didn't require immediate fire, all it would take is a little twitch of my finger and it would go. In a nutshell, that's what I like about the Glocks and LCRs. Much less chance of an accidental discharge.

M&P fits my hand better...therefore I shoot better with it. Had a Glock in 9mm, bought an M&P, sold the Glock... Then bought another M&P in 45. Both feel good in the hand, the adjustable backstraps make it easy to fit. But...may not feel the same in your hands. I'm just down the road from you, near Celina. I'd gladly let you try out my M&P's if you want to make a more informed choice. Good luck!

I have a Glock 17 and I will never part ways with it, but my next pistol will be the M&P 40c for CC. They are great guns and everything about them feels right.

I've been shooting Glocks for the better part of 10 + years, but recently picked up an M & P Pro. I love both, but the M & P makes me out to be a better shooter than I really am.
Yup, they are that freakin accurate.

I have one of each. In the hand, the M&P feels better.
Shooting? I like the Glock better.
I thought the M&P would be the best because of the way it felt so I was surprised. What surprised me even more...the gun I liked the least..... I liked the best when it came to actually shooting it.
That was the Springfield XD. Yeah....Let me confuse you some more.
You need to shoot the guns to find out what you like best. It's hard to say what you will like without experiencing them.
I think an M&P Pro would be better because the trigger. I'm going to have to strip my current one down and work on it's trigger because I do NOT like it.
If you were closer I could help you out. Go to a range that loans guns and shoot a pile of them and find the one you like.
When it comes to 9mm my CZ75B is da bomb

another vote for M&P, not a glock fan. not saying glocks aren't good guns just personsal preference. shooting a glock feels like a brick to me, where the M&P fits my hand great and their very accurate. only con is SOME of them may need trigger adjustment. I have had 5 M&Ps and only 1 of them needed to be adjusted... my .02$

I love the glock 30 (subcompact .45). When I first held it, I thought it was a little to wide, but now I prefer it.

Shot both and preferred the M&P over the Glock. While it's no 1911 trigger, my M&P Pro has a darn good pull on it. It's one of my best shooters and fits right in with my 3-gun gear.

The M&P has the grip angle of a 1911. So, if shooters are used to the 1911, this helps with a m&p. The Glock has a steaper grip angle, which a lot of 1911 shooters do not like. I shoot all Glock pistols, and like them a lot. But an m&p is a great platform. It boils down to a Ford, Chevy, Dodge personal preference, honestly.

I would trade my G23 for an M&P40c in a heartbeat; and I like this G23.

I've never owned an S&W auto loader so that in itself should be enough reason to get one. If I don't like itI I can always sell it in the classifieds for $50 more than I paid for it.

I've owned and like both. That being said, I've only owned 1 or two M&P's where as I've owned probably 30-40 Glocks so I guess that answers which one I prefer. The M&P feels better in my hand and is as good of a pistol as the Glock. But I like .45's and I'm sorry 13 rounds trumps 10, even more if you go with a +2 mag in the Glock. I don't mind the added bulk in my hand for the increased ammo capacity it gives. If I had been the designer I'd have gone for a higher capacity mag at the cost of the 1911 grip feel. No knock on the M&P but when I want a 1911 in my hand I pick up my Colt. With a Chip McCormick or Wilson 8 round mag it's only 2 rounds shy of the M&P and is thinner, smaller, lighter and easier to conceal (Colt Light Weight Commander). I like my modern double stack mag pistols to have a higher capacity unless we are talking a sub-compact like the Glock 30 but even it has the same 10 round capacity of the full size M&P 45. Other things I like about the Glock - it's like the AK of the pistol world. The things always work and are simple as pie. The only Glock I've EVER had an issue with is an ambi mag release G21 (run away from those). You can go to any gunshow (at least here in the metroplex) and there are 2 or 3 Glock Armorers with all sorts of goodies for your Glock. Lastly (and the most important) - I've never handled a .45 Glock (36, 30, or 21) that won't put all my rounds into one BIG hole..I just love the things. ______________________ Well hells bells, I hadn't looked at an M&P in some time - looks like they have 14 round mags for them now...problem solved Earl
