Dead is dead. You have already described it's accuracy so go for it.

I have used my AR's in 6.8 and .308 to take deer. I have used another of mine in 5.56 to take hogs. It's all good as long as it does the job for you.

I only have 2 rifles...an AR10 and a 45-70 guide gun. The AR for anything up to an including elk and the 45-70 for whatever else.

I did buy the cheek pieces for the boys. Based on shooting their rifles I converted my 300 WM to an Axiom but did not get the cheek piece for it.

I took this approach so the guns could grow with them. Adjustable stocks and they can progress to higher grain bullets as needed.

Awesome. I placed an order for one a couple of days ago. I'm going to try it out on my 308 with some reduced recoil ammo. If it works out well, I may buy the kids a 308 instead of the 243.

Thanks,
Rich

my son used a 308 axiom when he was 11 or 12 with no issues and regular ammo (150 gr).

It's all I hunt with anymore. I have a nice 16" carbine in 6.8. Two years ago I killed a nice Hill Country buck with a shoulder shot. He took one step and died. This year I shot a big South Texas buck that went about 30 yards and died at the end of a big blood trail. I LOVE the 6.8 cartridge. It is quieter than .223/5.56, packs a bigger punch and has very light recoil. All of that in a short, light package that is a joy to use in a stand or to maneuver in and out of the jeep. Next year I'm adding a supressor!

Here is the Hill Country buck.

I've killed a few axis doe and spikes , and a few whitetail, and one 175 lb hog at 400 + yards with my 6.8. Been a good varmint gun too

Bottom line is it doesnt matter how fast you are with a bolt, you would much faster with a AR.

i can rip off some fast shots with a bolt gun...multiple kills on pigs are no problem

I love my AR....but I doubt I will ever hunt deer with one. No particular reason....just don't want to.

However, I will shoot the CRAP out of hogs with an AR!! smile
