Only thing stopping me is it just feels weird using a gun like that for deer hunting. Ive never killed a deer with anything other than a bolt action. When I think of a deer rifle I picture a nice wood stocked bolt gun with a 3x9x40 scope. My AR is uhh, nothing like that. =) Dead is dead. You have already described it's accuracy so go for it. I have used my AR's in 6.8 and .308 to take deer. I have used another of mine in 5.56 to take hogs. It's all good as long as it does the job for you.

I only have 2 rifles...an AR10 and a 45-70 guide gun. The AR for anything up to an including elk and the 45-70 for whatever else.

The Axiom stocks are awesome. My 11 year old (79lb) grandson shoots the 30-06 and never bats an eye. Same with the 10 year old (68lb) with the .308. They both got nice bucks and does this year and like to go to the range. It truly does reduce the recoil greatly and I then use the 125 grain managed recoil remington loads. Couldn't be happier. I did buy the cheek pieces for the boys. Based on shooting their rifles I converted my 300 WM to an Axiom but did not get the cheek piece for it.
I took this approach so the guns could grow with them. Adjustable stocks and they can progress to higher grain bullets as needed. Awesome. I placed an order for one a couple of days ago. I'm going to try it out on my 308 with some reduced recoil ammo. If it works out well, I may buy the kids a 308 instead of the 243.
Thanks, Rich

my son used a 308 axiom when he was 11 or 12 with no issues and regular ammo (150 gr).

It's all I hunt with anymore. I have a nice 16" carbine in 6.8. Two years ago I killed a nice Hill Country buck with a shoulder shot. He took one step and died. This year I shot a big South Texas buck that went about 30 yards and died at the end of a big blood trail. I LOVE the 6.8 cartridge. It is quieter than .223/5.56, packs a bigger punch and has very light recoil. All of that in a short, light package that is a joy to use in a stand or to maneuver in and out of the jeep. Next year I'm adding a supressor! Here is the Hill Country buck.

I've killed a few axis doe and spikes , and a few whitetail, and one 175 lb hog at 400 + yards with my 6.8. Been a good varmint gun too

Bottom line is it doesnt matter how fast you are with a bolt, you would much faster with a AR. on 3 occasions when a large herd of hogs showed up I Wish the AR had been in the blind i can rip off some fast shots with a bolt gun...multiple kills on pigs are no problem

I love my AR....but I doubt I will ever hunt deer with one. No particular reason....just don't want to. However, I will shoot the CRAP out of hogs with an AR!!
