1938 Mauser. My son shot his first deer, a doe for camp meat, with this rifle. When my buddy flipped the deer over and saw the softball sized exit wound, his only words were, "f*#%in' Germans". I still think that if my son had missed, the little deer would have still died from the noise and muzzle blast.

22-250 200 yard shot walking away from me turned it's head to the side then I pulled the trigger. Bullet dropped over the distance went exactly up it's rear hole and broke it's back. No entry hole found at all (even when skinned). I was 12 and it was my first buck.

When I was a kid (back in the 60's) my dad's deer gun was a German Mauser that he brought back from WWII in Germany. He killed deer all over Texas and Colorado with it. A few years ago, I decided I wanted one for myself, so I bought one at a gun show. I've taken it out a few times, but never shot a deer with it. I took my son out last year for his first deer hunt, and he dropped a nice doe from about 125 yards with one clean heart shot. Not bad for a gun that was made almost 100 years ago.

not really a wierd rifle but I haven't seen very many. It was a Remington(I believe) lever action 243 that my cousin owned and took my first deer with it when I was 12.

Don't understand at all the comments about a 22-250 being a weird firearm. Texas classic right there, great deer rifle with a Sierra 63g soft tip.
Weirdest firearm for me was a Remington XP-100 .221 Fireball handgun.

6.5 jap (Norma Ammo) Makes a big hole. i've heard the 6.5 arisaka was a popular round to have in a sporterized rifle back in the day I have worked up loads for a sporterized Arisaka that was rechambered to a 6.5X57. Strong actions and the accuracy really supprised us. A lot of the Atisakas were rechambered to that round following WW2 when many were brought back from the war but ammo was not very common for them I have one in 7.7 Jap...I'd love to shoot a hog or deer with it. Ammo is expensive and hard to come by.

My buddy says he can only put the Norma brand through this rifle. Something about the thickness of the brass.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Oh also remembered that one year my scope got bumped before a hunt and I shot the knee caps off a doe. She pushed her way under the neighbors fence and had to hope the fence when I found her my gun jammed and I had to slit her throat with a buck knife.
Quite the rush as I had to jump on a bucking doe and pin her down to get the cut. Granted she had no front legs as the bullet took out both her kneecaps but she was still strong.

I crippled one once. The grove manager drove over and I asked if he had a hand gun. He said "no, but I have a hammer" I elected to use my rifle...

I killed one with my S&W 9mm
I watched a buddy kill a blackbuck doe at 60 yards with his .40
Anyone here shoot a deer with a out of the ordinary firearm? the buddy with the .40 was me and it was more like 50 yards. All luck never thought I would hit it. Aimed what seemed to be a small building over her back and sqeezed off.....two minutes later you could hear the pop. Right in the shoulder.

defiantly stabbing a pig with massive knife/sword from Walmart while 4 Pit Bulls wearing Kevlar were holding it down. That will change your life.....
Check out GuidedHunter link below and look for the North Texas Hog Hunters. Monty who runs that hunt is F'ing nuts.
