I have a shoulder mount of an elk I shot last year that's ready. I had them mount it with the horns detachable. I'd like to get to CO and pick it up myself, but my schedule for the next few months is packed.
Anybody had any experience with shipping mounts like this? Could I get it done for $500 or less?
Any leads on people/price would be appreciated.
Thanks
PS- Have called my taxidermist about it, but he's out on spring break. I know he'll have an option, but wanted to get a ballpark price first.

Cost me about $300 to get my axis shipped so I am assuming $500 or more for a elk.

I ship Life size Brown Bears from Alaska to the east coast for 625 through Yellow freight. I go through the Packaging Store in Anchorage. I am allowed up to any size as long as it goes into a conex and is less than 500 pounds. So I know there should be ways to do it down there. Alaska is very expensive shipping from. Where are shipping to? Some taxidermists have their own shipping and just have their truck make a road trip and drop off mounts.

I ship mounts all over the country. Elk from Amarillo to Florida, $300. Elk from here to Minnesota same price. If your taxidermist uses a logistics company he will save you up to 50%, (I use DTS). If you can have your elk shipped to a business versus a residence you will save $$$, if you don't need a liftgate on the delivery you will save $$$. Some clients have picked the crates up at the freight company to save $$$. You will have a crating fee from your taxidermist but he should be able to get it to you for under $500.
