"They wouldn't" and "they prefer"
Well there you have a definitive answer. I know two legged transplants that shouldn't be in the Texas Hill Country either but they are.
I don't presume nor speak for God and I ain't speaking for Bighorn sheep.
They were BigHorns.
There are no Jaguarundi,Jaguars, Kudamundi, or Ocelot around here either. What about chupas?
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

Well, they exist round my parts and I'm sure glad I got to see their beauty. There is a whole lotta unrestricted nothing from the Western Texas Hill Country to the Pacific Ocean. Nothing to stop the migration of a species. except for anthrax......
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

WOW....Never thought a simple question on 270 Win cartridges for Aoudad would stir up such a hornets nest... Pretty cool...

Pretty cool... i wouldn't think twice about using any of the common 130 gr factory fodder on audad. I have complete confidence in the "lowly" Remington 130 gr Core-lokt (which has never failed me) good luck on your hunt!

man i have guided on quite a few aoudad hunts more is better in my opinion. I love a 270 but i would definately use 150 gr. barnes or something else that will get through the shoulder. i have a lot of horror stories of guys that thought it was a perfect shot, but i can tell you shoot through the shoulder and you will get your trophy good luck.

In a 270 I would go with 150s. A big Aoudad ram is a tough critter. We have a bunch of them on our lease and while I have not shot one others have. They do not go down easy. I own a 30-06 and if I hunting them with the hopes of finding I would use 180s or 220s. If I shoot one I just want them to run off and die somewhere. On my lease they are on the vermin list with hogs.

With TSX run light for caliber they need the velocity to perform!

I didnt even like the 180's in my 300 wby, think I will move to 150's and see how they do sometime.

Stump Jumper is right on target.
Like I said in my first post:
"Any 270 round will work. When you see a big one with solid muscle mass it will make you wonder for a second if you need a bigger gun."
If I were going to hunt them instead of happen upon them, I'd fer sure go with suptin with a bit of range and a$$ behind it.

If some folks can take it with a bow, you should not have a problem with a 270 and 140 Nosler partitions. The shoulder may be a tough shot with anything under a 300 win mag. But I'm just guessing, I've not shot one. I would with a 270 under 300y and some anatomy research though. Edit:assuming it was a legal kill

My son and I started shooting the Hornady Custom 270 Win 150 gr SP Interlock. His Browning A-Bolt and my TC Prohunter both shoot them very well. As long as they keep shooting as well as they are, I think we'll use the 150's. A wise man once told me that you can make up for bullet drop, but you can't make up for down range energy. My outfitter said to expect between 150-250 yard shots, I "think" these will do the trick. We'll see......

Guys Ikilled one with a 22-250 right in the ear hole didn't take a step it's all bullet placement I killed lots of big game animals with 270 and a 22-250 of course more power is always a bonus

Got back two Saturdays ago from Marfa, and here's the low down. My son shot his big Aoudad ram behind the shoulder with his .270 Win 150 gr Hornady Interlock. Complete pass through at 220 yds, ram went up hill approx. 90 yards and dropped. My nephew shot his ram in the shoulder at 101.5 yds with 7mm Rem 154 gr Interbond. We recovered bullet under hide on far side, maybe 50% retention. Ram went across mountain approx. 105 yds and dropped. I shot a brute of a ram (285 on scale) at 132.5 yds with 7mm Weatherby 154 gr Hornady Interlock. Ram dropped in his tracks. Bullet went in front of shoulder, and we recovered bullet under hide on opposite side, bullet was 98% weight. Incredible animals, while you think you're looking at them through the spotting scope at 800+ yds, they're looking down thhe spotting scope at your eye ball. Fantastic trip, love West Texas and all it has to offer.
