can you get a bit more specific on "the safety doesn't work"? Does that mean it moves but you can still fire? Does it mean that it is stuck in the fire position? What?

Will the bolt raise with the safety in either position? if it will you have mechanical issues. As far as I know on Savages if the safety is on the bolt can not be lifted...

Savage has 3 position safety, all the way back lock bolt, middle allows you to cycle bolt to empty magazine, all the way forward to fire.

This^^^^^^^...... I bought my wife a Savage mod 112 and her dad tried to lighten the trigger pull. He succeeded but the safety wound up stuck in the fire position. So he had to take it a part and tighten the screws.

I have 2 model 112's one is a 22-250 in a long action per accu trigger that has 3 position safety. The other is wifes 25-06 pre accu trigger that I bought new 12 yrs ago & it has 3 position also.

How old are you talking Navasoto? Im not the original owner of the 22-250 so I don't know it's age. I did have a mod 110 that was my second rifle my dad bought me when I was 12 and if memory serves me right it had 3 position also and that was 20 yrs ago or so.
