I usually kill a couple of deer and several pigs every year. I grind up over half of my meat. I have been using a friends electric, that I believe cost less than $100. It works for awlile but then the 'connecting tissue', or whatever it called, gets it hung up. What is the best meat grinder for under around $150 or so? I would prefer an electric, but will consider a manuel. capt david

These folks have everything. I would call them and ask what they would reccommend for your price range. They are in Frelsburg, Texas. http://www.texastastes.com/

Good link, the grinder I use is an old Hobart that was made in the 50s, still works and parts are still available for it.

The best meat grinder that I have used is our Kithen Aid mixer with the meat grinder attachment. I have cubed up 2 deer hams and within several minutes have it fully ground. It is very fast and powerful. it's not the cheapest, but it works awesome. And your wife/girlfriend would love one for a gift!!! (That you can just happen to use also!)

I have used the hand grinders for 10 years prior to buying an electric grinder and they worked great as long as you were not grinding over ten pounds of meat. Just too time consuming for my needs. I have been using the Kitchen Aid stand mixer with the grinder attachment for the past fifteen years and it may not be the top of the line grinder but it is a multi unit so I can live with that. I have learned the cleaner your meat and the colder it is the better your results. Seriously I see no need to grind up tendon/ligament/blue skin or even the venison fat because I do not cook and eat my prime cuts with it. Now some of the wild hog fat is OK but again the colder the meat the better the grind. I always grind once with the small hole attachment no need to turn your meat into mush. I only use the large hole attachment with a double grind if I am making sausage. I think I paid around $200 with the grinder attachment back then so I have no idea what they cost today.

I have a Tor-Rey #12 that is a beast. It is a clone of the older style Hobart grinders.
If you are doing only a few deer a year, I recommend the LEM from Academy. The #12 is on sale right now for $299. They are all stainless and good quality.

cabelas 3/4 HP meat grinder. If you are looking for a meat grinder that is powerfull and very well built buy a cabelas. The 3/4 HP is as powerfull as the LEM 1 H/P and cost less. If you are licky like I was you can find them on sell. It will set you back a few hundred $ but it will last you a life time. I searched around for a while before deciding on my grinder. I can grind up an entire deer in about 10 minutes. The 1/2 HP grinder is a good one too. I used one before buying the one I have. I would not recomened going any smaller though. Also they are very quiet and the moter is fan cooled. Its just a very well built grinder. Godd luck on finding what is rite for you.
I caint spel so good. Git off mi bak

I use an old Hobart that I picked up when a place went out of business. It is great. However, before that I would contact a local meat market and they would grind my meat for me for a nominal fee, I would make an appointment and wait for them to finish. I am very particular about my meat and wouldn't want to take a chance that it got mixed up with someone elses.

All I do, at most is a couple of deer and 2-3 hogs a year. I have a Tasin 108. It burps the ground meat right through. Won't break the bank as the price is usually between $150 and $175. Here's a link to it: http://www.onestopjerkyshop.com/tasin-ts108-electric-meat-grinder-p-47.html

I bought mine from Gander it is 1HP and I do not believe it can be bogged down have done several pigs and 1 big doe and stuffed sausage with it and am well pleased. A bit out of your posted price range but they do make a 1/2 HP that I think you would be happy with.

I agree, I have a 3/4hp and it will grind a deer or hog as fast as you throw the meat to it. I got it a few years back and have been very pleased with it. Bought it on sale too! I cant see why anyone would need a larger grinder for personal use. While you are at it buy the foot operated switch, makes the operation go much smoother. I have even ground a calf through mine.
Bartender, bring me anything except brake fluid, cause I don't plan on stopping!

Best... when that word comes out I dont think there is one real answer, lots of good ones, but the best one is the one that is paid for and does what you need it to. For us that is a 1 3/4 hp cabelas model. Its been grinding probably around a 1000 lbs of meat a year for 5 or 6 years and never looks back.

I use a #32 hand crank grinder, I have used it for about 40 years. It was used when I bought it, if I was guessing I would say it it at least 60 years old. Number of pounds of meat that it has ground? There is no telling, but it still works as good today as 40 years ago.

I think it is around $400 but it is money well spent if you are doing several animals a year. For years I was the meat grinder, turning a Hobart hand crank. It was a major chore especially if there were 3 or 4 deer in the coolers.

I also just take my meat to a local shop. The fee to just have it ground is very low (like $10 for a deer if you've de-boned).

Biro, Hobart and Tor Rey are the best and parts are easy to find.
