I've got a female Lab that's coming up on 2.5 years old. She's crated during the day because that's the way we started her out as a puppy, and we've never had a problem with her. She's completely house trained and comes in and out of the house when we're home via a doggie door that lets her into the backyard. She gets a good workout with bumper/ball/etc when I get home to wear off some of her energy before supper. Lilly is a typical Lab and well socialized to other people and dogs.
We live on a corner lot, so we have a long stretch of sidewalk down one-side of the house. My dog often barks and "chases" people as they walk up the sidewalk (especially those who are walking their own dogs). Our dog, though, actually pushed out a couple of fence slats yesterday afternoon with her nose (I assume since she is not one to jump up on people or things), and the wife didn't care for it in the least. Any ideas on how to get the dog to not chase and apparently push on the fence?
I'd like to leave her outside more during the day when we're at work, but I'm now concerned that she might get out of the fenced yard.
Thanks!!

My lab was chewing up the slats to get into the neighbors yard to play with their dogs. I put up a hot wire around the bottom of the fence; problem solved. It probably wont deter her from chasing people on the other side, but she for sure wont touch that fence after a time or 2 getting hit by that wire.

I agree a hot wire will keep her off the fence. You can use screws in the fence in the mean time. They hold better than nails. You could also try a bark collar if you don't want to put up a hot wire.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I'd look into a bark collar and if you have an e-collar, if she's collar conditioned, you can help reduce the problem while you're home.

Thanks for the input. I've never used any kind of bark or e-collar on her, but I'm thinking that a hot wire may be the best answer. She's a smart thing, so it shouldn't take too long.

I've used hotwire for Labs, Anatolians, GSD's and various livestock. Matter of fact, I'm in the process of cleaning out my barn and have miles of hotwire that's totally re-usable (just snarled and needs to be untangled.) You and anyone else on here that has need for it is welcome to it. Just PM me!
