Without too much technical specifications, what type of durations do you set your timers to throw corn from feeders? In season, I usually throw for 5-7 seconds per feeding. Out of season, 3-4 seconds. Mine are 6v American Hunters.

Most of the guys I feed for, during the season feed right at 5-6 seconds. Some will have a second 3-4 second feeding a half hour after the main ones which are usually around 7 AM and 4:30 PM.
If they feed off season it might be twice a day for 2-3 seconds or some once only in the evening for a 5 second spin. That's to try to make the corn last a little longer.

Don't feed corn out of the season when it runs out in March, only protein year round. Start corn back around late August. Run 4 seconds 4 times per day. Times depend on the sunrise or sunset.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

might cut it back a little (like now my feeders are cut back to being empty) but had them set for 6s with a motor that turns out some hp.

7-8 seconds during season. Don't feed corn after season cause I'm feeding protein in free choice feeders.

Depends on distance between your spinner plate and funnel. Depends on how much corn you need to throw to hold deer. I like to feed 1-2 seconds a day in off season because I have had better seasons doing this than when I havent fed. Maybe imagination but it makes me feel good. Deer season I like two feeding about 20 minutes apart twice a day. I throw enough corn to keep the deer feeding for 20 or 30 minutes. Adjust as needed for your property/herd.

Thanks for the good information guys, sounds like we're pretty much on the same page. I was told nearly 4 years ago, that you have to throw enough during season to make them want to come onto your place. Throwing 6 -7 seconds or so twice a day, makes my 225lb. feeder last about 4 weeks or so. Cost to play. Anyhow, I heard at Dick's yesterday that corn is anticipated to go for nearly $10-11 this next season for 40lb.bags.

I have been seeing that most of last year.
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

All depends on the motor and the spinner plate. Some feeders throw a lot of corn in just two seconds. We try to keep ours at 4 times a day during the season. Two in the morning, two at night. Don't make them throw too much corn. You want to get it on the ground so they know that it's there but you don't have to feed the whole heard in one throwing.

For established areas, I run my corn feeders at 8 secs twice per day during the season and zero in the off season. I use free choice protein from mid Jan to Oct/Nov.
For areas I am still trying to attract deer, I will continue to run my corn feeders about 4 secs in the evenings off season.

You would be surprised at the differences in the amount of corn thrown from different feeders. I learned a long time ago that some of my feeders would throw 1# per 5 seconds while others would throw 3.5# per five seconds. What I do is get a 5 gallon bucket (home depot type), hit the test button on the feeder and immediately place the bucket over the mechanism (tight up against the bottom of the barrel) to collect the corn. I then pour the corn from the bucket into a plastic grocery bag and weigh the amount on scales (I use digital fish scales). I will usually do a 5 second test / weigh, then a 10 second test / weigh. Then just divide the 5 second weight by 5 and the 10 second weight by 10 and you will have a pretty good idea how much that feeder throws per second. I do this once for each of my feeders and write it down for reference. This way, I can adjust my feed times by how much corn I want to throw per feed or how long I need the barrel to last before I return.

We stopped using corn feeders this year. Just spread some corn down the sendero from the truck on the first day of each hunting trip to hold up passing deer. Simply tired of loading feeders. My hunting partner and I each shot our personal record buck so we probably won't use feeders this coming season. I will plant some winter rye and oats (no cattle on our section).
