This is a pic of my wife de-shedding my Australian shepherd notice the pile of fur on the floor. She has done this 3 days in a row I guess she is getting rid of her winter coat.

When I had a German Shepherd, she would shed a lot while brushing her. Looked like snow on the ground.

For a dog w/ longer hair like that, a FURminator will help a lot.

they do work. I can take piles of hair like that one off my chocolate lab with one of those babies.
