I asked a friend who went to the Cleburne gun show this past weekend, if gun prices where better out of the big city. He said mainly he noticed that today's gun prices are ten times greater(or more) than what he paid for ten to fifteen years ago on same brand, same caliber, even same model guns in general. And that retail store or brand tables, like Team Glock at gun shows, are typically the highest price for a particular gun.
Humm...let's take Glock for example, very popular and you see them everywhere. Why so pricey? Supply and demand? Glocks are like rabbits. They everywhere. Here's another example, Springfield Arms XDM, nice hand gun. I like it. It is made in post Soviet era country. Shouldn't that bring down the cost? Isn't that why we import? Cheaper labor, less consumer cost. Why is Economics 101 not working when it comes to guns? If I want a pair of name brand jeans, I can find them cheaper, on clearance, at the outlet mall and at the Thrift store. Even Pawn shops pricey...on beat up guns no less. What's wrong with my math?

All depends on where you shop. I avoid the tacti-gay and huge well known stores because they're usually the ones charging the high prices you mentioned.

Its inflation in full effect. I don't think the price of a standard glock is that bad. They can be had for $499 and iirc from past prices this isn't too bad. As far as XDMs go, the money saved in mfg is probably used up in importing into the US through taxes and shipping and other fees, and on top of that the seller wants to make a buck too it all goes into the final cost.

Funny you mention the XD. Before Springfield bought the rights to it (then it was called the HS 2000), i believe it was sold for about 250 lol.

I'm looking for a lever action, but i'm not willing to pay 450 bucks for a used gun that wasnt worth that NEW! I mean i dont want to rip someone off, but i'm not going to be ripped off either.

Same reason a $0.50 hamburger costs $3.00. Or a $150 iphone sells for $600. Everyone in the chain wants to make money and people are willing to pay their asking price.

Its the same concept like the vehicles we drive, check out the prices of vehicles 20 years ago compared to today. It involves cost of living/manufacturing increases. Look at gas prices today compared to when I was in High School in the early 90s, less than a dollar a gallon, today average $3.50! Inflation affects everything!!! My biggest complaint is why is diesel more expensive than regular gasoline??? Sorry not trying to take ur thread just got caught up on the increased prices and got me thinking about other costs that have increased substantially.

I too agree that the prices are climbing ever higher, and the quality is at an all time low. Plastic triggers, hammers, & frames. Hard to find new guns that are blued any more. Most are coated (fancy way of saying painted in most cases). So what are we really getting for our dollar now-a-days? Not much if you ask me.

I was looking recently at hand-guns at Academy. I walked away completely unimpressed with any of the new offerings.

Bologna!

I have been into the gun thing since about 1995 and off the top of my head I cant think of any gun that has gone up 1000% in that time period. Even the Colt Python which seems to be bringin crazy money right now has only gone up a little over 100% in the last 10 years.

I would love to hear about these guns that have gone up 1000% in the last 10-15 years. I am sure there are a few (VERY FEW) but as a whole gun prices are no where near 1000% higher in the last 10-15 years.

Exactly! And 10 years ago that same gun was around $450 and up untill the last year they could still be bought for $450. So a $50 increase over a 10 year period equates to about a 10% increase (or 1% a year). Sure wish everything increased in price that slowly! roflmao

Still scratching my head on this 1000% increase thing. nidea

Our paper money is just that - paper! The Federal Reserve is printing it like roles of toilet paper and when they do that, inflation occurs. The value of the U.S. dollar is decreasing significantly, which will cause prices to increase.

lol, they are not 10 times more than 10yrs ago! but higher in general heck ya. why it seems you can get used ones appraised for more than a new one sells for...

then again, paying $399 for a new heavy barrel Rem700 seems...fair..

Inflation will account for some of the change but here's an example for you.

Beretta 92FS, blued, brand new in 1992 bought from a gun show dealer with the lowest price I could find, $425. Now they are what? $550 or less new. Doesn't seem like a big cost increase to me. I never want to sell it but for 10 times what I paid, it can be yours!

Yes prices have jumped pretty much all across the board. Might have something to do with dealer pricing going up.

I don't find the prices that out of the spectrum.

As far as Leveractions go, A "JM" stamped Marlin is indeed going for $450 and if thats too high, buy yourself a mossy. The same thing happened to USA Winchesters right after they quit making them and now they have dropped significantly.

It really depends on the gun and the supply and demand.

Well the fact is inflation has been at managable levels for quite a long time.(Ask any senior about their miniscule COL increases in their SS checks).

I don't see it in gun prices either, other than very specialized sectors like Pre-64 Winchesters and other older collectible guns. Black rifles are cheaper than ever-literally. We've got a lot of economic problems but inflation isn't one of them and hasn't been for a long time.

Gunbroker is my friend. May be my only friend if I don't lay off of it. It is like crack to me, especially with dealers that will let you buy on layaway and give you 6-9 months to pay. Easiest way for a poor boy like me to sneak in a Kimber 45

What dealers you talking about with 6-9 months layaway?

Here is an example of a guy that does nine months. Several guys on there do extended layaways. Just search whatever and layaway, Chose the search descriptions option, and hit enter. Alot of hits will say no layaways, but several will do it.

They have gone up across the board over the last 10 yrs. More than guns is ammo, most of it has doubled and tripled. 10 yrs ago I could get wwb 556 for $2.99-3.99 all day. Can't even get close to that now.

Yep ammo and gas are big exceptions-both based on fear and speculation more than actual supply problems.
