I never have had a gun go off but i have antecedently fired an arrow off in Cabela's last year. I went there to get some arrows and i drew back to have it marked, well i wanted to see where he marked it so i positioned the bow where i could see the mark and my finger hit the release firing an arrow. Luckly it sailed upward and stuck in the wall by a deer that was mounted on the wall. The bow tech was looking at me like i was an idiot all i could say was "I cant believe i missed that f#c*in deer" I learned a good lesson that day. I am just glad no one was hurt thank God.

Many years ago, I saw a 68 Chevy pickup in the parking lot of a little cafe that had about a 1-1/4" hole blown out of the cab at the drivers rear corner. It was quite obvious that the driver had been carrying a shotgun (probably 12 ga) in the gun rack and it went off. Can you imagine driving along and having a 12 ga shotgun go off 3 or 4 inches behind your head in the cab of a truck?

I have a Remington 6mm that went off when I flipped the safety off to unload it when I was a kid. Fortunately, my dad taught me safety procedures. I had it pointed to the ground away from everyone and the only injury was to my thumb. The gun was later recalled for that particular problem.

Not I. But my brother inlaw shot himself in the foot after a day at the creek with a buddy of mine. They get back to the car (buddys moms car) his truck was in the shop. They get in and take off. Brother inlaw unloaded his on the way to the car. Buddy didnt, he hands it to bro. inlaw to unload old Henry pump .22 not familiar with the gun, he racks untill empty plus a few extra for good measure. At the same time buddy is telling him to make sure one is not in chamber some times you have to pick out last one by hand with pocket knife, he pulls trigger for no apperent reason. The barrel is rested on top of his foot. BANG. He looks at my buddy and says I think I shot my foot. Buddy told him it better not have gone thru the floor of his moms car or she would shoot more than his foot. Needless to say yes there was a new drain hole in the floor. We laugh now. But moral of the story is "Guns aint dangerous people are dangerous" Unless its a wore out Henry pump.

My father had gotten a 20 gauge single shot H & R when he was a kid for Christmas or something. The story goes, he brought the gun to my grandfather and asked him, "What do I do once I've pulled the hammer back and then don't want to shoot it?" My grandfather teaches him how to put the hammer back and then says, "But when you see a dove you pick up and do this." Bam! One round in the ceiling! I guess it was a good thing he wasn't teaching him about rabbits. My father, then 12, had neglelcted to tell him that a round was in the chamber.

Anyway, the patch hole in my Grandgather's ceiling was my father's way of teaching me to treat all guns as loaded.

That being said, when I was in college a buddy and me unloaded our guns after some .22 plinking, and then hopped in the jeep. Some off roading later I hit a bump and heard a loud noise. After stopping for investigation I found a hole in the back seat, back gate, and spare tire. While I was glad my buddy had at least pointed the gun toward the back and not the front, I was very %$#@#ed about the fact he didn't double check it and I had no spare.

The moral of the story is, don't trust that others have unloaded their gun either.
