The Abilene paper ran an article about the quail decline and the crazies came out. Straight out of Loony Tunes.

The crazies always come out in the Abilene Distorter News. Good for a chuckle at times.

It sure sucks that the quail are in such bad shape. When I was in my early teens my buddies and I would hunt several ranches and farms around home. We were poor country kids and didn't have dogs so we just wandered around until we jumped a covey. Then we'd work that covey until we each got a bird. Then we'd wander off a different direction until we found another covey and repeat the process. We could do that all day and never run out of quail or jump the same covey twice. Seldom see any quail anymore. The only place I've seen 'em in any numbers is way down south.

I come across 6 coveys on our place south of Abilene. Really haven't noticed much decline on us, I'm wondering where all of our turkey went? ReporterNews is a joke btw.

What is crazy about the article. Dale Rollins is the top biologist in the state on quail research. The numbers are falling drastically and it is a mystery as to why.

I think the crazies he is talking about are the responses to the article in the comments section.

Read the comments. Especially from our local "know-it-all" Mr. sonofagun. He sometimes forgets which side he is arguing for and ends up arguing against what he just posted an hour or so earlier. smile

We have had a big increase in quail on our place in Burnet county in the last couple years, dont know why. Then again we have very little predators on the place, dont know if that is why.

I'll have to go back and read the comments. I was confused too.

Thanks for the info! I have noticed this also starting in the mid eighties but more so in the past ten years.

I read the comments section and could not help LMAO but think that sonofaguns could have had that debate all by himself. Although he kept it between the bar ditches I think one more drink would have sent it off into the bushes as in it is Bush’s fault! I guess we will soon hear O is the savior of the quail too.
