I'm usually pretty good about taking pics on just about every hunt, but I was really slacking this season for whatever reason. Probably had something to do with going into the season with VERY low expectations.

I'll start with a couple quick pics from dove season. I took my little man out a couple times just before his 3rd birthday back in September. He had a ball both times. I think I'm definitely going to have a hunter on my hands!

With the major drought situation, things were looking pretty bleak before this season. The closest lease to my house (35 minutes away) was BONE DRY after teal season. This is a pic of one part of it during teal season. Yes, those are dead gar by the hundreds....

We had a small mud puddle that I hunted a couple of times during early teal with very little success. No skunks, but definitely not what you expect from early teal season on the prairie. Fortunately, a couple of buddies were kind enough to invite me out to their place a couple of times. No doubt, they salvaged my teal season. Thanks again David & Ted!

Thank God, we got a pretty good rain just after teal season that gave us a huntable amount of water on two of my prairie leases. Surprisingly, November was very good, even though the main lease had about 10% of the water it would have in a normal wet year. December, on the other hand, was as tough as any I can remember. We never had any solid fronts, so the birds were stale as can be. That pattern continued through mid-January until we finally got a good enough rain to put some water on my river bottom lease. It was absolutely phenomenal for the last few weeks of the season. Grey ducks galore and they acted like early season birds! Final tally for the season was 38 hunts (including early teal) and 477 ducks bagged on those hunts. 149 ducks for myself, give or take a few. Enough rambling....here's the rest of the pics....

Angus after that hunt....

Last minute INCREDIBLY half-azzed setup....still managed 2 limits by somewhere around 8, I believe....

Thanks, fellas. Angus turned 8 in November, but he still acts like a puppy. He's been a great companion in the duck blind for the past 7 seasons, except for one year when he had to take a break for knee surgery. I definitely don't look forward to the day when he's too worn out to go.
