What size of 4 wheeler would be a minimum for use on a lease for general use and carrying game back to camp?

My old Yamaha 2wd 200 was a great machine. Carried me , pack, corn, only got stuck once in a swamp, got off and moved it to solid ground.
My wife must be a cross between a Indian and a bulldog. When she's not on the warpath, she's sitting on her butt growling.

i may or may have not have been one of two large men riding a kawasaki 250 last season... both 280 plus... and it pulled thru some nasty mud and slush. at one time an extra 140lbs was on the front rack and it made it!
so you can likely get away with a 250 or 300. unless you just need to show off your 800cc 4 wheeler... haha

LOL. Trying to get by with as little as possible. This will be my first year on a big lease and will need something before season starts.

300 should be a good basic sized 4 wheeler. Back in the 80's we did everything we needed on 250's.

I have a 350 rancher and a 450 foreman..
I honestly can hardly tell the difference.. 350 has always been enough for me.. heck, I had a 125 for years.. it even did good.

Any size will work I've used everything from 220-1000cc. I actually liked the old 220 the most. It was quiet, small, and didn't drink alot of fuel. It's nice to be able to ride where there's not always trails and be able to fit inbetween trees and what not. And another +1 is that if it breaks they are usually the cheapest to fix.

Sometimes the physical size of the atv is more important that the cc engine size. Like someone said the old 125's worked great but a big man was cramped especially if he had to ride one very far.

Whatever you cab afford is my policy. But 250 or 300cc atvs are fine for carrying the operator, hunting gear and the occasional deer. If you plan on hauling passengers, feed, stands, fencing, firewood or anything else commonly found on the deer lease, I would take a look at the 500cc and up models. The larger vehicles have stronger suspension and more low end torque for moving heavy loads. If you can justify owning the 800cc, you wouldn't have to feel like you are "showing off". Just don't put chrome wheels and a snorkel on it. That might offend the "old" guys.

Bought a used Kawasaki Bayou 220 several years ago and never looked back....It has electric and pull start so if the battery is down it'll still start. Just big enough for me and several sacks of corn or a dead deer or hog. BTW I'm 6'6" and hit the scales at 240.

How much do those run? I am on a pretty tight budget for this first year which is why I was looking at a good used 4 wheeler at this time.

350 with 500cc being JUST right.
I've owned 300's 400's & a 650.
I think a 450/500 would be the best all around.

I know nobody like the clones, but I bought one 2 years ago and had no issues. Has carried me, 210 + 2 does, and also me and 7 bags of corn. It is only a 250, manual gear box but a full size frame/chassis. Could not walk away from the price of $1700.

I have had zero problems with it and I am going on my fifth year with it . When I bought it was $1500 .

Started with a Kawasaki 160 2WD. Put some Wooly Boogers on it. Went every where, did everything. Wish I still had it. Cheap to buy and maintain. Have you looked at some of the 800-900s? Nearly as big as my first Willys Jeep.
