Coyote, Cougar, Wolf, Bear, Bobcat etc
Thought it might be interesting to see responses on the future of major predators. Lets keep it civil if possible so it does not get locked.

wolf & yote treated the same, bobcat&mt lion treated the same, bear left alone at its current state but classified as an exotic in areas they want to reintroduce them to.

Maybe TPWD can do a drawn hunt for one bear per year. Might make some extra funds on the drawing.

Need a 5th option... Let nature take it's course and quit trying to introduce species.

Bc in most scenarios folks want a way to hunt them cheaper than current prices. If very few permits are handed out, they won't come cheap.

There are more predators than most hunters and certainly most college boys the State employs realize. You'll never completely get rid of them, nor should you. We have some real problems with Hogs, (feral), and fire ants..neither were native and are out of control....try getting the State to take care of them..DD

I think Texas should do limited permits on mtn. lions like some of the other states. Problem animals, however, should be taken care of ASAP. I cannot speak for other states but I think bears should remain protected in TX for the forseeable future aside from maybe a money making auction. Wolves should not be protected or reintroduced. They do far to much damage.

What problems do coyotes and cats cause that they need to be managed?

I was writing in defense of why I thought we should adopt a system similar to other states but realized that it would be virtually impossible to put a system in place in Texas that is in place in other states in the West for lions because Lions are not found throughout the state and it would be impossible to place bag limits by region for lions because their range is so varying. My intention in writing that earlier post was to say that I would like to make sure that we have a sustainable population in the state. I don't know that it is or is not right now but I know that genetic variation in several west Texas populations is not very good. I am not sure that the system is broken and it may well not be, but I would be very sad if there ever was a day when native lions no longer resided in west TX.

I voted for the third one by the way, but I disagree with the new introductions part. I think that if we do our part there should be no need to introduce predators. Of the ones we have, the only ones threatened in the state are ocelot and jagaurundi(I think TPWD actually claims these to be extinct in the state but there are many who say they are in S. TX) not sure on black bear. I would put black bear on the "making a comeback" list rather going down hill

MT lions probably have too much range to ever be completely gone from TX.... they don't cover the most territory of any animal in NA by being dumb.

Lions are not nearly as worried about crossing the Rio Grande as us haha! Just making the point the lower the numbers are the more difficult it is to have a self-sustaining population. I have no problem with hunting them as much as we possibly can, but I want my grand kids to have that chance as well. I want to hear other peoples opinions on it, especially anyone from west Texas with experience from them

Eradicate them and put survivors in a zoo.

How about an option that says to leave them alone? This whole "management" moniker is a farce. The only response someone could come up with was fawn crop. Oh boo hoo you might just have one or two less deer coming to your feeder right on schedule when it goes off.

I wish there were more coyotes and cats...same as hogs...they are too much fun to hunt than to wish to erradicate them completely!

Calf crop, every once in a while you find one half eaten before it's had a chance to completely drop and it can take a bite out of the wallet. Takes an even bigger bite if it's a club calf.
