I am about to get a ruger scout rifle and guy said you can put on a scout scope or reular scope.

I know nothing about the scout scopes. Pros vs cons? makers what to look for?

Pros easier to keep both eyes open than a conventional scope, ability to use iron sights such as a ghost ring also, ability to engage targets faster and easier espeicially moving target at close to medium range. Cons usually less field of view looking through the scope, and some people's eyes just can't get past the nature of not having the scope up close and "into the scope"...some whom scout scopes feel uncontrollably unnatural tend to look outside the scope in a moment of shooter's ADHD especially at trigger pull resulting in a horrible follow through. For those that they work well for can shoot very efficiently from 10-300 yards with a variable power scout scope, for other's they will find it more practical to just go with a low variable scope (ie. 1-5 or 2-7).

If you are looking to buy...Leupold and burris make quality scout scopes as well as low variable power convential scopes that would compliment your rifle nicely. Other brands like Barska and NC Star make scout scopes too if you're a fan of buying cracker jack toys...

I had in mind to buy or build a really nice scout rifle in .308 to be an all around "walking rifle" for coyotes, hogs, and deer, but I never found one that I found any more efficeint than a rifle with a Leupold 2-7 conventional scope.

I am one of those that the convential scope works better for. I tried a Burris on my M1A Scout and prefer the standard peeps to the scout scope. With practice some day I migth change my mind but for now that scope works ok on a 223 Contender barrel. No complaints about the Burris quality though
