Spent some time away but keep getting pulled back in.
Stuck between Glock 29SF or 20SF or a Colta Delta Elite.
About $400 more for the Delta Elite, but I've had great success with 1911 accuracy more so than glock. Primarily will be for lease carry/shooting hogs in trap/zombies.
I don't shoot much at all, so not concerned with ammo costs and even though some ammo is not the potent, I will reload if I have to make something .357mag+
I have heard negatives on the 1911 failing under 10mm power as well as toting around a full size steel 1911 is substantial. Wouldn't ever get into full on deer hunting with it but while bow hunting I'd like to feel prepared if a another group of 20 pigs came in.
Standard capacity I believe on the 1911 is 10, while the Glock 20 is 15.
What say you.

Skip the 10mm and buy a good 1911 in 45.

I've had a S&W M29 44 Mag and put enough rounds through the Colt 10mm to know I definitely prefer a high end 45. You asked, that was just my experience.
Accuracy trumps power.

Like the glocks. Great for the ranch cause you cant get them dirty enough to malfunction. only malfunction i have ever seen on a glock is shooter error. (limp wrist) I used to shoot my 21 on duty but department made us switch to same gun. I cleaned once a year just because. Havent cleanded since and shot 1000+ rounds. Im also thinking about going to the 10mm for ranch purposes.
Glocks can be pain to get used to. may want to look for a laser if you dont want shoot a alot but need accuracy. but can get bulk ammo pretty cheap at gun shows. lots more lead down range then revolver

I have shot a Glock 20SF for awhile and really enjoy the gun. The capacity is good and it's pretty accurate. I also currently shoot the 1911 platform but not in 10mm. STI has introduced a 1911 in 10mm which I would like to have. I would consider also going with a Delta Elite. The thing I like about my Glock 10 mm for the field is I'm never worried about getting it scratch or dinged up as I am my nicer 1911's. Cleaning cycles are far and few in between unlike my "clean after each session" with my 1911's. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Both platforms have good resale if you choose to dive in and dive out.

How universal are the Delta Elites with standard 1911 mods? Seems like they lack a few accessories from the factory.
Could see both the 20 and elite being too bulky in the tree stand though. I've had 2-29s and 2-20s but know the SF will fit better, but am tempted by the elite as I haven't gone that direction.
And getting a 10mm Kimber seems quite difficult.
Looking at just over $900 new on the elite.

I carry a G29SF and also shoot a G20SF. I love both of them. They pack a great deal of energy. The 1911 guns can handle 10mm +P ammo, where the Glocks can not, if you want to run them even hotter. I replaced the factory sights on my G29 with a red fiber optic front sight, and like it a lot. The 29 is a small pistol, and takes a little getting used to. The full size 20 is easier to shoot. If you plan to carry it at all, I'd go 29. Otherwise, the 20 would be good. If you need ammo for it, you can find 10mm Ammo HERE.

Yes. The 1911 with a heavy recoil spring and a fully supported chamber can handle hotter 10mm ammo than the Glock can, no doubt. I've tried to shoot the hotter loads out of my G20, and it starts to FTE, FTF, and shoots all over the place, You can feel it beat up on the frame, also. The recoil impulse changes. It works well right at book max loads.

The 1911 can handle hotter? I had it in my mind backwards... Unless something has changed I have to say the Glock is better than the Delta Elite any day. Several years back I found myself going back and forth between buying Glock 20 and a Delta Elite. After tons of research I found waaaaay too many people saying that the Delta Elite would "shoot its self to pieces" under the power of the 10mm. Saw more than few write ups from very well respected gun writers that claim Glock is the only one that has perfected the 10mm handgun so far. Guess which gun I bought.

That's because the first Delta's used 45 frames, they don't anymore they have their own.

Do what I am doing. Get a Glock 21 (.45acp), then buy the conversion barrel and G20 mag. This way I can target practice cheap with the 45 and then use the 10mm for the field etc. I would take a G20 over a delta elite anyday of the week. Twice the mag capacity and much lighter. Accesory rail is real handy as well, I run a light on mine a bunch. Mine

Like I said, I rarely do any target shooting just need to have something to check traps thats convinent. Then if bow hunting off season I prefer to have something readily available.
I know the 1911 will fit me well and 19s and 27s fit well but the 4 non SF 10mm glocks didn't work so well. I have to decide if the SF will fit better as I will have to order it and don't want to change my mind if I pay full price.

Fusion Firearms makes a 10mm 1911! I have a G20 and love it. Years ago I bought a Colt DE and it was the biggest waste of money! It became a pile of junk iron after 700 rounds! Colt would not make good on it and never bought another Colt again!

All I can say is shoot several different loads in it. I bought a Glock 9mm a few years ago that would shoot Winchester FMJ rounds about 11" low but would put Speer Gold Dots dead on center.

Glock 29 all the way.
I found one for $400 on consignment 2 weeks ago and jumped all over it!
So glad I did. Not too snappy. Recoils about like a Glock 27. Ballistics are insane!
It's okay...I'm a Zamboni driver!

I have a glock 30 (non-sf) and love it. At first I thought it was a little chunky, but then I got used to it. Now I actually prefer the wider grip of the 30 over my glock 23, an I consider my hands to be medium sized.
