Something didn't sound right so I just double checked, Hornady does not make a 225 grain xtp in 45 cal.
The closest is a 230, but I am betting that it could have been a different bullet.
It has just been my experiance that the hotter i run xtp's the better they perform, up to a limit of course , but I haven't found it in any of my loads yet and I use to like to smoke em out there.
Regardless, your experiance is noteworthy in that a person can makea bullet fail even at 45LC standard velocities.
The flatnose hard cast stopped that problem though it sounds like.
good choice.

America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards. Claire Wolfe

Yea I must either have bullet weight or manufacturer mistaken, nonetheless I have gotten complete body, head to rump, pass thru with hard casts on about an 80 pound pig shot within 25yards to make it very dead and make me very pleased.

this right here

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Magnum research BFR. If you can't bring em down with that them you need the Army to help you.
