Hows the hunting around Woodson, TX? Our group went and looked at a possible new lease about 5 miles North of Woodson last weekend and I was wondering what was common for the area. Thanks for the help.

5 miles north sounds like Throckmorton co. If its not, then you are in Young. Good numbers in that area from what I have seen. Alot of nice bucks have come out of both counties over the years. This past season was not a good measuring stick due to the drought etc.. I have been pleased hunting that area. Have no ARs in Throckmorton, have them in Young.

I really enjoyed my lease just East of Woodson while I had it. Was sold but I saw plenty of deer and big deer as well.

I'm hunting just east of Woodson. The hunting is pretty good. Lots of yotes, hogs and a decent deer population.

I hunt just east of Woodson also and as others have stated Lots of pigs and the quality of deer is very good. We put alot of pressure on the pigs year around and they are starting to avoid the place. Seeing fewer and fewer on camera and alot less sign of them.
Live to hunt, forced to work!

13 miles west of Woodson, no reason you shouldn't kill 130" deer every year with way too many hogs despite killing a lot every year. Also know two different groups of guys that hunt a mile north of Woodson. Both groups absolutely rape their deer herds with ZERO management. They still see plenty of deer and kill 120" deer pretty regular and even killed a 153" two years ago.
A mature buck might be a deer, but you can bet it's a totally different animal

The places we looked at were 50% wheat and 50% pasture. I'm kind of worried that there was to much wheat and not enough pasture land. What are yalls thoughts?

Depends in the size of the place. That area is mostly wheat fields and mesquites. Not a lot of cover really anywhere around but they use the terrain/elevation changes to hide. I'd say 50/50 is actually typical of a lot of that area just as long as you have enough cover to hold some deer
