I would love to know what is really going on out there. The picture of the bullet I saw was a FMJ. I know that Winchester did not allow FMJs and I thought it was the same at Garland. I agree with the dude that wrote the letter that was published in the paper. They run a tight ship out there and I do not think the bullets came from the range.

IMO, some people use the noise from the gun range as cover and illegally shoot nearby. If anything goes wrong the range gets the blame.

They don't allow FMJ ammo.

Don't go to Garland! Go out to Top Gun Shooting Range instead. There are a lot less yahoo's at Top Gun. Plus, it's a 500 yard range!
I have personally seen shooters fire well over the berm, and the RO on deck not give a rats a$$. I finally voiced my concern to other RO's and the dangers involved, and they kicked them out. If you are one of the yahoo's, don't go to Top Gun!

I grew up in garland and shot my first rifle at that range. Me and my cousin used to stomp those bottoms quit a bit in the spring chasing sandbass up the rowlett creek right next to the range and never once did I hear a whiz of a bullet just the bangs of the actual guns. Agree with the previous poster people use that noise to hide their own shots. I actually did a little research myself and got on google earth and compared it to the range and the houses that claimed they were hit and there's just no way in my oppinion rickachet or not. IMO its the noise and all the development around there people are pushing there weight to get rid of something that was there long before them. But they knowingly purchased land or house with it there. When country turns into city the city wins it stinks!

I can personally vouch for the bullets "whizzing" by as no more than two years ago I was in that creek chasing the sandies. One bullet came down landing in the water no more than 5 feet from me. After that, never again will I go to that creek for sandies. That range does post no FMJ's but nobody does an ammo check to see what people are firing, obviously the berm isn't very effective or there are that many people who can not shoot their weapon at a 100 yard target without shooting over the top of it. I simply warn anyone who attempts to get into that creek when the sandies run in to stay away and find another spot. A fish isn't worth taking a bullet. Things may have been different years ago for that range, but in today's times, bullets are getting past that berm.

I hear there's a court hearing today determining if the range will stay open or not.. It may not be the "best" place, but I like it, and decent outdoor ranges are getting few and far between..

They actually do check ammo, everytime I take my AR up there the guy at the desk checks the ammo and the range master walks by and checks it during a seize fire.

I think you spell that "cease" fire. But ya'll are right I've shot there and not had a problem with the ammo I shoot. It's just like all the people that bought houses around DFW and then complained about the airplanes. But at least there is a new law on the books that says you can't sue gun ranges.

Per news today, court agreement, GPSR will raise the berm and add a range officer there all the time, as you know much of the time the officers are on the actual range during cease fired. They have a month to make it happen, according to the channel 4 news at noon.

i do not really get the problem. I moved close to a shooting range, i live within 1 mile from Gibson shooting range in mesquite. Do research before you invest in a property, i am not going to complain about the noise when i am not at the range. garland public was there long before the houses. If u do don't like it then don't buy a house behind a shooting range and I'm pretty sure i would not chase sandies back there bigger berm or not.
Isn't it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different.

The law does not let a city shut down a gun range. The public can still sue in civil court for damages.

The ones that took the Range to court (with the help of Rowlett City Lawyers and funding) live down range about a mile away and have had bullets hit houses, wether from the range or not has not been proven. About 10 years or a little more ago some that live close to the range took the range to court trying to get it closed due to noise. Judge threw that one out telling them that they should have checked the local enviroment before buying the house. The Judge in that case also had been a member of the range for over 30 years from what the range owner told me.

I've never had anyone check my ammo, coming in nor while I was on the bench shooting! People can be protective over this range all you want, the reality is that bullets are getting past the berms. It's not safe! Regardless who was there 1st doesn't matter. Yes people can not do anything about the noise but when it comes to bullets getting past a pathetic excuse for a berm then legal liability falls on the range. As the news reported the range is complaining that it will cost them .5 million to get the berms up to par, that's why this is blowing out of proportion. Owners don't want to put forth the $$$ to keep their business operational. It's simply greed, fix the berms or close down. Simple.

Where Is the proof that the bullet came from the range? Who's to say it didnt come from some bonehead around those creek bottoms? Maybe The range should really crack down on its ammo checks and perhaps make a spreadsheet every day of members arival and departure times along with type of weapons and calibers they use during that time. Yes it would take a few minutes longer to get to shoot but C-Y-A for things like this.

They don't allow FMJ ammo. Dosen't mean that people can't bring them in without their knowledge. I've seen people shooting FMJ's out there and have pointed this out to range officers.

I have a close friend that lives in that neighbor hood and he found a bullet in his driveway 2 days ago. Obviously there is no way to prove where it came from. He texted me a pic of it and it was a FMJ. I cant say they have ever actually checked my ammo but they do ask every single time I have been in there what caliber I am going to to shoot and what type of ammo you plan to shoot in it.

I'm sure i'm in the minority when I say I actually like going to Gibson's in Mesquite. The son doesn't have a sparkling personality or really even gives a rat's arse if you are a customer or not but I like the fact that he doesn't put up with any crap and gets rid of the riff-raff right away. As long as you obey the house rules, there aren't any problems. Since I'm there to shoot and be safe and I'm not looking to be buddies with him, it works out great for me.

I have shot at that range for many a years, back when they had clay shoots down the road. Before the fire. I can attest that they sometimes check your ammo, and sometimes they dont. They do need, in my opninion , to raise those berms. There is a job site down the street from me offering free dirt, maybe i will call the owners and give them a heads up.

I stand corrected. I live over by White Rock and I have found shell casings and bullets in the streets in my neighborhood. We live in a fairly nice area and if I can find bullets and casings in the streets with out a gun range around, I'd bet that the ones their finding in Rowlett are fired from those neighborhoods as well.

I work off 175 in Pleasant Grove and have a whole collection that we found one yaer after New Years eve. I took them to a meeting and told the company controller that I would be needing some money for roof repairs. I have 223s up to 45s.

You're right about the Gibson guy being an arse. I'll never go there again. I hung a target at 200 and was the only one at 200. When I got back to the firing line, I needed to set up my chrono. It was already put together and all it needed was to be placed 12 feet infront of me and lined up. He would not let me set it up and was a major arse about it. I told him it was needed to complete my work for why I was there. He said to wait for the next cease fire. So this fire shooting session while I was waiting was an extra long one. You treat your first time paying customer this way. F them. Go to TOP GUN! It's a much better place and a 500 yard range. Terry and crew are awesome!
