ever put your hands on a wyoming mule deer? You can shoot (and kill) to 400 on one without taking the crosshairs off the deer. not your average hill country deer. 5" isnt much on a deer that big.

If the conditions (shooting rest and weather) are good enough for me to decide to take the shot, I don't think it is going to matter whether it is a .243 or 7RM. Now if it was a bigger animal than deer, that's another story.

I will test .243 loads on hogs and also a 75gr .223. If both work on hogs, they will work on deer.

They don't care if you're down there.... It's a maintained road, you see folks hunting, folks riding bikes and joggers... They all seem to think the deer are located in the canyon the opposite direction of where we're looking. Leave that road and get away from the truck and they get real interested in you which sucks because they have a bird's eye view of everything you could be planning to do. Put snow/ice on the ground and they'll stay put and laugh at you sliding down the hill; seen that, it's funny if it's not you.

Bullet weight is actually an irrelevant number calculating wind drift. 120gr .257" bullet is going to be long so it will have a fairly high BC, probably in the .4 range. Combine that with decent speed and they will fly straight.
