i dont believe id want a bullet weighing less than 140gr for deer I have killed a whole lot of WT with a .270 with 130 grains and used it to kill Mule Deer in Texas and Canada and took the same combo to New Zealand to kill 2 Red Stags. I cant argue with that but how far where the shots Up to 300 or so but never needed to shoot any farther. If they were that far I could stalk closer. much easier to just shoot the extra distance. You'd be cussin the muleys we hunt.

270 and 130 grain pills will kill any deer out to 500 all day long. but would it be forgiving to i little slight miscalculation? Whats slight? MOA? Thats 5" at 500, and if you are shooting center mass right behind the shoulder on a deer, you will still make a kill shot.

But rifleman I would be able to get closer since I would not have the audience of people you have.

He just likes cutting down the overloaded steps is all.

Ohh you'd get closer, then they'd stretch it out a few miles. I'd let you try it though, but you'd have to give me 20 minutes to go get set up. That whole thing about a mule deer stopping to look back is a load of crap.

You can shoot (and kill) to 400 on one without taking the crosshairs off the deer. not your average hill country deer. 5" isnt much on a deer that big.

Would you really trust a .243 at 500yds on deer?? That seems unethical to me or extremely risky If the conditions (shooting rest and weather) are good enough for me to decide to take the shot, I don't think it is going to matter whether it is a .243 or 7RM. Now if it was a bigger animal than deer, that's another story. I will test .243 loads on hogs and also a 75gr .223. If both work on hogs, they will work on deer.

I just wonder how hard it is to be able to confirm the rack is 13" wide at 500 yards

They don't care if you're down there.... It's a maintained road, you see folks hunting, folks riding bikes and joggers... They all seem to think the deer are located in the canyon the opposite direction of where we're looking. Leave that road and get away from the truck and they get real interested in you which sucks because they have a bird's eye view of everything you could be planning to do. Put snow/ice on the ground and they'll stay put and laugh at you sliding down the hill; seen that, it's funny if it's not you. But rifleman I would be able to get closer since I would not have the audience of people you have. your right rifleman... i dont like a 120gr bullet tryin to take animals down 600yds away... i bet that gets some nasty wind drift with it too Bullet weight is actually an irrelevant number calculating wind drift. 120gr .257" bullet is going to be long so it will have a fairly high BC, probably in the .4 range. Combine that with decent speed and they will fly straight.

Same as if they were closer, good optics help a lot at that range.

Having them named this last year did not seem to help you any now did it.
