Here is a pic of her from the day after I shot her.

To say the place at DB Hunting Ranch is thick is an understatement! We got there at 9 a.m. to start hunt. I wanted to try a chance at her with my crossbow. We dropped my friend off at a feeder where he was after fallow. Because I am on a cane I can't walk far so we took the mule around the ranch looking for her. Four hours later we still had not found her! The guide Jake knew that she liked to run the fench line so they dropped me off in a big opening and went to beat the brush to see if they could get her to run by me for a shot. No luck! but Jake did see her. So we took off for luch to let her settle down a little. We got back in about an hour and a half and off we went. It took us an hour to find her. I set up on a fence line and about 20 minutes later she came running riht at me. At about 80 yards or so I shot her in the front shoulder with a 180 gr round from my 30-06/ She started bucking and I thought she was going to drop. She took off through the cedars and I couldn't get another shot on her.
Danny and Jake spent 2 hours looking for her and jumped her a couple of times. She was leaving big piles of blood, but the shot hadn't gotten to her vitals. She ended up dying the next day, but the meat spoiled, I was bummed but what a hunt. This place was full of animals. I saw a nice cull Axis, some really nice rams, one REALLY big aoudad ewe and lots of fallow bucks and does. Can't wait to tae my kids there for some rams.

Good looking oryx Jake. Too bad about loosing the meat but if you hunt it sometimes happens.

Congrats! Do you know what she scored? I'm actually going to try and book an oryx hunt with these guys today - going to give Danny a call in a few hours.

Thanks, I don't know her length. I called the taxi yesterday where she is at. He said he will measure her and get back to me. I will post when I know. I am guessing low 30's.

What taxidermist did you use? Is he local? Price? (sorry for all the questions!)

I was told this hunt is in a 90 acre pen? I was interested in addax, but not hunting in a 90 acre fence regardless, so could you elaborate of size of ranch?

It is not a 90 acre pen! The front breeding/holding pen by Dannys house is probably about 90 acres but you don't hunt that! The hunting area is a little over 300 acres under high fence. Very thick cedar in two areas seperated by an open area in the center with a water hole.

Taxi was Josh Hale at Longhorn Taxidermy and his price is I think either $625 or $650 for a shoulder mount on a Jetz form.

I don't know if you meant it to sound the way I took it. Jake is a very good guy. He has had surgery on booth his hips and still manages to get around. Besides I have never heard of a 90 acre pen.I have an 85 acre "Pen" as you so called it and I would doubt very seriously you could count every animal in it. I would think taking an orxy in a 90 acre pen which it wasn't and even if it was would be a lot harder that taking a striped horse in whatever size pen that was. If I have offended anyone that is too bad as I have never been one to be "Politically correct"

I just heard from taxi, the horns measured 31.5 on one side and 32 on the other. Again, not a massive one by any means, but i am happy (and last I checked thats what matered). Thanks Don, its always fun. Not sure if he meant to sound that way, but I don't take offense. If it was a small place I would say. Its not to me, I mean its not some 5,000 acre ranch but with my hips hell I can't go very far anyway! smile So to me 300 acres might as well be 30,000 for how far I am going to cover! Can't wait to visit your place this fall again! I wanna see what hapens to that buck with the funky antlers!

I didn't mean anything other than what I wanted to know. And I was told 90 acres by a guide that had prior customers and I don't give a damn what you think about the zebra hunt. As you said I am not politically correct as well! I was looking for an addax an didnt want to hunt 90 acres if that was case! Now I really don't give a damn. You can sell it to TGT. But thanks for verifying what I was told.

Jake no offense to you I just wanted to know for what I was looking for. I don't care what or how anyone shoots it hf hunting is hf hunting, just wanted a bigger ranch to hunt. Sorry if it offended you, congrats on the oryx. I will continue to look for an addax.

Instead of some he said she said blah blah why didn't you just call the owners and ask.

Thanks

I thought the "Let's see your trophy wall" was a little? I can't think of the proper word to describe it. A large trophy room with lots of really large native and exotic game from what I have seen doesn't have anything to do with your ability as a hunter. It usually has to do with how large your wallet is. Mine is not large and never has been so all I have on mine is some average Hill country whitetail antlers "Not Mounted" and a good mule deer that Rhodes Brothers mounted free for me years ago.
