I am going to be transplanting my family from the great state of Texas to the Seattle area for a job opportunity. It is a bitter sweet situation. Great job opportunity but i have to leave my friends and home in TX.
On a positive note, i am excited to get to explore, hunt and fish the Pacific Northwest with my boys. Does anybody have contacts, friends etc that can help steer me in the right direction and get started exploring the outdoors (hunting/ fishing) up there?
I look forward to sharing some of my first game taken from my new hunting grounds...

Buy up your rain gear, you will need it. I think while we were in the Seattle,Tacoma area it rained 4 outta 5 days we were there. I loved the pike place fish market in Seattle. You will enjoy and adapt to a whole different atmosphere. Have fun on your new adventure. \ PS Make sure to take the ferry trip to Victoria B.C. well worth the trip.

Dude....Seattle is the best city in the country. I moved to TX from Seattle 2 years ago. I did only live in seattle for 4 years though. 1) good to great pheasant and quail hunting a couple hours east over the cascades. 2) good trout fishing within 20 minutes of the city (mostly flyfishing) http://www.washingtonflyfishing.com/3) world class hiking 4)....the best thing you can do is get into salmon, tuna, halibut, lingcod fishing. http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/washington-state/5) decent duck and goose hunting. Best places to live are on the west side. Bellevue, Redmond or Issaquah. Property taxes are very low and the public schools are the best in the country. If you have any questions...please ask.

Dude...I'm a native texan but I lived in western WA for 2 years...honestly the hunting and fishing is way way way better than texas. I've lived a of of places and it was by far my favorite.
1. hunt grouse in olympic national forest 2. hunt quail near wenatchee 3. fish...everywhere...if you don't know how to fly fish then learn. Trout Salmon Steelhead. 4. Hunt pheasant in eastern WA 5. Hunt ducks all over the place... 6. hunt elk and blacktail in the olympics
3000 years of beautiful tradition from moses to sandy koufax...

Thanks for the informaiton. Cant wait to jump into it. I have a loft in Ballard until we sell our house here and the family can move out. We are going to buy in Sammamish. It is beautiful! Thanks everyone for the kind words and advice! As for the hippies, i did not want to offend any of the tree huggers on the board. LOL. We are moving to Sammamish which is one of the few Republican districts. And I will not trade in my F150 for a prius! If anything i will go buy a diesel!

Are there Moose and Bear also in Washington? Maybe Bighorns and Goats?

I have all of my in-laws that all live in and around the Sohomish area. Funny that none of them hunt or fish really but they talk about the fish runs and such. Been up there 3 times and have yet to get to do anything "fun" in my book but I will the next time we go...I PROMISE. Hunt for deer, elk, moose, bear, and waterfowl plus all the fishing you can stand.
Big ones line-up, little ones bunch-up

There are bear, elk, moose, goats, rams, white tail, mule, black tail and mountain lions. Thats the fur bearing group. The feathered groups is long list of ducks, geese, chukar, pheasant, etc. I am excited about the fishing too! If only there was a seal season.... JK

You jest but I read earlier in the week that someone's been shooting and killing them around Puget Sound. They'd found about 6 or 7 bullet riddled carcasses at last count I believe.

My wife and I were out there during that time. Saw it on the news. One of the seals was very rare almost extinct.

Make a run up to Whistler to ski while you're up there. Awesome place. Beautiful drive.
