Monty invited me to hunt in Childress, TX for 3 days of action packed hog hunting. We left Wed for West, TX. I loaded Monty and Pop's up in Springtown and we left loaded down. I took 7 dogs and Monty took 6 dogs. Colby and his dad Cody (friends of Monty met us with 4 more dogs). We arrived in Childress around 4pm and met up with Shonn that leases the ranch. We followed each other out to the ranch. We messed around for a little while unloaded dogs and getting them situated while we waited on Cody and Colby. Shonn knows Colby as well and wanted to go and catch a hog before he got there. We loaded a few dogs up on the hood and road down the road from camp. First turn we made was headed to a feeder and the dogs (Stew and Kane) blew off the hood. We made the next turn in the road and the lights hit a feeder pen that was pulled open for this hunt to let hogs come in and feed. The dogs were bayed on the outside with one big boar and 1 small boar. Turned the CD loose and and ran in and caught the big one but couldn't hang when he took a good hit to his upper jaw. The boar boar came running out when Kane and the CD rolled on that one. Stew stayed bayed on the smaller one as we closed the gate so he oculdn't get out. Shonn picked Stew up and threw him over the pen right on top of the boars back! Stew didn't bark then just caught and sat down with the boar. We hobbled him as Kane and Cd showed back up. Kane ended up taking a mesquite thorn threw his eye that night. Cody and Colby showed up as we pulled into camp on that quick hunt. We got him settled in and loaded back up with Stew and Kane on the hood. Honestly i can't remember the exact order all that took place but i going to try writing it the best i can. We rolled on down the road and and Stew and Kane came off the hood and again taking the pant off the ranchers hood. They went close to 700 and bayed solid. When we arrived about 100 out we turned loose Colby and Monty CD and when we got there a big sow was coming to us with Stew getting thrown thru Mesguites breaking them as they came to us. Stew was on 1 ear and Colby's Cd on the other. Got her flipped and tied and called it a night. Next morning i was tired so everyone let me sleep in as Colby and Monty took Kane to the vet the get the thorn out. They had to leave Kane with the vet so mentime back at camp Shonn said lets go bait some roads but let take some dogs with us. I didn't really want t hunt without MOnty but the owner said lets go so i loaded up Superman, Stew (strike dogs) and Trig and Dozer for RCD. we baited roads it was lunch time now and hadn't put a dog on the ground. 12:30 we crossed a path that went to the Red River that looked like it was from early morning. not thinking Superman come up with anything being 12;30 but i put him on the track and casted him into the wind. He went 175 yards and bayed solid. Bay broke and went to 519 showing treed. It took us a while to get to him maybe 30min. We drove uop within 200 yards and turn Stew trig and dozer loose. Trig is my retired RCD that i brought just for backup. Man when we got there and saw this hog and his hardware i thought lets get it done. Shonn and i got him flipped and tide. All dogs where ok except Dozer. He took a few bumps threw the vest but a few staples and some rest he was ready again Saturday. MOnty and Colby showed up in time to take pictures and help load him! We went back to camp and rest for a while decided to just hunt morning and late evening. LEft out agin that night and caught 3 more good sows with Stew, Triton, and a few CD. Went and got some sleep and left out agin that morning with Stew, Superman, Triton, and a few catch dogs. Superman struck a good boar about 900 yards out and we went to him. He was bayed solid so we just walked in a few CD from 200 and they got thrown around and the boar took Superman about another 900 when i found him he was worn out. I sat with him for a while before we headed back. Took the rest of the morning off then went out again that night. Hunted Yondar, Stew together whcih made a hell of a team. Caught a sow in a WEST Texas waterhole. It was a water trough. Stew caught this sow as the cd dogs came running in i caught one of them in mid air the keep from tearing ears anymore. Yondar ended up striking another hog about 550 out and got there and Stew was also caught on this sow about 200 pounds. BY Friday night we had 8 dogs down with all the hard hunting. Stew had caught 7 out of the 10 hogs when caught so we called up a friend of MOnty i think he goes by cujo72. ANyways he showed up with a crew of dogs and we loaded them up to hood. I ended up a taking one of my pups Apache to run with his as we cover some ground but didn't come up on anything. So we went back to came and i decided to put Apache up and bring Superman just to help stirke but not run him loose. We went on the other side of the ranch and Cujo72 dogs rolled off the hood and went 200 250 but didn't quit wind it out. Superman was really want to go but he was on 3 legs so we helled him back. Dogs showed back up but Superman was still wanting to go so i told Shonn let him loose ( just thinking he would run out and pee or something) He rolled out to 550 and bayed solid. (sorry again Cujo) We just the rest of his dogs to him to keep a tight bay going as we drove to them. They had 150 pound boar caught. Tight him and rolled back to camp. I put Superman back him and grabbed a RCD for some of the runners out here. We roaded a few more raods when his dogs blew off the hood and came bayed at about 250. We shined the feild and they ewhere running this good sow around so i cut Dudley to them to help slow her down. Eneded up catching another good sow to rap up the weekend with 10 total. This was a grwta hunt and really good company. We did eat also but I'm tired of typing all this already. Shonn cooked steaks, shrimp, prokchops, breakfast every morning. We actually ate so good around peak hunting time it made it hard for us to go out and hunt. Want to say thanks to Monty for the invite and to Cujo72 for coming out and hunting. Very nice guy and glad to meet another member. Well, my photo bucket is down but we will have allot of pictures posted shortly. Colby nice to see a man not afraid to show his girly side as well with his Spongebob pants he wore. I'm sure i left out plenty but i know we had a good time and Monty or Cojo72 can feel in the blanks some as well. I get pictures up hopefully tonight. We also got invited back for April i think so i can't wait. All caught alive but 2 of the smaller ones didn't make it to the weigh in. Doesn't hurt to cover some of the cost.
