Went and looked at a lease just West of Blackwell in Coke county yesterday and picked out what I hope will be a good spot. It had lots of deer sign and a nice thicket with alot of rubs. I got a feeder and a camera setup so hopefully I can get some good pics before the horns fall off.

I have access to a small 12 acres in Eastland county but don't see any deer once the acorns drop so hopefully this place will atleast have alot of movement and also the pigs will give me lots of opportunites to just enjoy the abundant wildlife. There are also some free range zebras on the place and we counted 9 of them.



I am allowed to take one mature 8pt or better, one spike, one doe and all the pigs and predators I want. From what I have seen there are some pretty decent bucks in the area (nothing that will break the record books) but should have an opportunity to take some good mature trophies . The BEST part of the whole situation is that my Papa lives about 5 miles from the lease so I will be able to spend alot more time with him !!!!

Hey Dlrz71, welcome to the lease, I have been on it for 23 years now, and have always enjoyed it out there, and have seen some nice deer taken off of the place. What area did you choose?

I ended up taking 17 down by JCB. I really liked that it had a little something different with more of a thicket type area with alot of buck sign and rubs all through it. Can't wait to get back out there and really scout the area and check my camera

17 should be a good area. I hunted area 17 the first 2 years I was on the lease, and took a nice buck one year. Back then the rancher ran sheep and mohair goats on the place, and I think that area 17 was the goats favorite place. There have been some nice deer taken out of that area, and it has definately improved since they got rid of the sheep and goats several years ago. I am in the middle pasture and hunt in area 20 and have hunted it for the last 10 years. Look forward to meeting you, and I hope you enjoy the place as much as I have over the years.

awesome! will they let you shoot a zebra? they make really cool rugs..... or a bunch of underwear, whichever route you go.
