Ok Nimrod so anyone everyone should be able to sale snake's without any kind of oversite, permits or any kind of licenseing. I am sure you would not like that one bit because then the profit would be taken out of you raising your snakes.

Comparing a gun to a live animal held in captivity is foolish. A gun requires a shooter to be dangerous. A Snake requires an opportunity to be dangerous.
Also to all the people saying liberals take away your rights. Look at who gave us the Patriot Act? Both sides take our rights away, its just a matter of which ones we care about that decide who we are maddest at.

I am sure you would not like that one bit because then the profit would be taken out of you raising your snakes. There are better solutions than what this bill, they want to make it a crime if you own a python and breed them and sell them. They have lied and used made up science to support there bill. They want us to believe that a bunch of "nimrods" whent and let go pythons and they started breeding? Hell they have been there for years and it was not a big deal till the USHS got involved. And they are the same people that want to take away the rights of gun ownership, hunting & fishing. Its ok to not like snakes, but others have rights. Even is it does not effect your rights it is still wrong how there handling this bill. And I will say it again, don't let them gain power because they will be back later trying to take away your rights and freedoms.

I wish this thread would disappear. I gave the OP the best advice, and he refuses to listen. Nothing can be done to help.

Snakes are let go by their owners. You should not be allowed to own a snake unless you have the "PROPER" facilities available when it grows in size. You have to admit, after the cuteness wears off, some people let these things go. And please don't compare pets to guns and hunting. Two separate debates altogether. You want a snake? buy a snake. but have the proper area to raise it through its entire life. Not just an aquarium to hold it while it is small. Give the snake the respect it deserves. Just like a baby, can't keep it in a crib all its life.

Would like to see how many of them are actually let go, just die or killed because owner is tired of Fing with them.

One last time...... Feds’ new rule about Burmese pythons relies on misinformation To The Editor: Entities within the U.S. Department of Interior have snuck through a new law, circumventing the voting process, which bans the transportation of the Burmese python from one state to another. This ban, which is supposedly for ecological reasons, is the equivalent of requiring igloos to have fire extinguishers in them It is obvious from the programs I have seen on Discovery and National Geographic channels some entities wish to cultivate an atmosphere of fear surrounding these animals. What you have "learned" from watching these programs is well-orchestrated propaganda designed to reinforce your fears. If all the animals that are killed by domestic and feral cats in a year were brought into your house, ou would be neck deep in no time at all. Yet the feds have classified the Burmese python as injurious wildlife in all 50 states, while the "injurious" issue can only be observed in the lower third of Florida. These laws, which are not based on science or fact, are a political first strike by agencies and organizations that ultimately do not want any snakes to be recognized as pets, and the general public has been continuously conditioned with false information to fear them. I am not asking everyone to become snake lovers, but I am asking those who hate snakes to consider your fears are being manipulated into supporting a hidden agenda. David A. Still trying to spread misinformation and fear.
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) started the ball rolling. USFWS was always and is the main force behind the constrictor bans. HSUS / HSLF merely supported the bills and used its lobbyists to push the issue after they started loosing steam. HSUS main focus was and is to protect the snakes from ending up in the hands of people incapable of caring for them in a responsible humane healthy and safe manner.
There was nothing in either of the proposed bills anyone's lawyers needed to look deep into, their lengthiest versions were 2.5 (two and one half) pages. There was nothing ever in either bill that would make it illegal to own or breed snakes. It was and is only to ban the importation of 9 specific species of constrictors into this country and to control / regulate the movement / sales of the species banned that are currently in the US.
The problem is, you've been lied to and bought those lies hook line and sinker. Every link you've posted was from a obviously biased self interest group. If the constrictor community as a whole would've dealt with the right folks from the get go using science and facts to back up your position the outcome may have been different. Every bit of the politics involved is just the normal posturing smoke and mirrors BS that goes on in DC daily. Not one of them could do anything but stall or push, in the end all involved are just trying to take credit for something they had zero to do with, a politicians normal day in DC.
If you read and understand the Lacey act you'd know why a vote isn't necessary.
Timeline of events leading to the USFWS modified version of the constrictor snake ban that passed Jan 17 2012.
• June 2006: The South Florida Water Management District petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) requesting the listing of Burmese pythons as injurious under the Lacey Act, a federal law that regulates trade in wildlife. • January 2008: USFWS published a Notice of Inquiry in the Federal Register asking the public for comments on several large constrictor snakes. • July 2009: U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee about the dangers posed by large constricting snakes to Florida’s ecosystems, unveiling the skin of a 17-foot Burmese python shed in the Everglades. • October 2009: The U.S. Geological Survey issued a science-based report that identifies nine species of large, constricting snakes as posing a medium or high risk as invasive species in the US. • March 2010: USFWS issued a proposed rule to list nine large constrictor snakes as injurious under the Lacey Act. • January 2011: Open Secrets, a website that discloses federal lobbying expenditures, announced that the U.S. Association of Reptile Keepers spent $120,000 lobbying against the USFWS rule. USARK submitted a report saying that banning the trade in these species would cost the industry $100 million. • March 2011: The White House Office of Management and Budget/Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs received the final rule from USFWS. (This White House agency's review process is usually 90 days, yet the rule was held up for 10 months.) Political posturing. • January 17 2012: Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar makes the announcement covering only four species. The ban will not in any way affect people who currently own these four species of snakes, other than prohibiting the transportation or selling of the animals across state lines.
At no time did USARK submit any scientific data in rebuttal to the USGS report or substantiate any claims of industry monetary loss. But they sure put time energy and effort into using every resource available to solicit donations.
I support your right to have any pet you want as long as you are responsible owner. Trying to drum up support for any cause using scare tactics and BS won't gain you many supporters except from the tin foil hat conspiracy theory crowd.
