Rain got my waterhole ridiculously big and me and my friends knew this morning would be perfect hunting weather, so we decided to all be a little late to school and get a hunt in. Birds were out flying everywhere, it was awesome.Creek right behind the waterhole was flowing fast and so many wounded got in there and gave us the slip. This picture does no justice to how good a hunt it was. Still got a nice 4 limits. This was on sunday, at another flooded field type spot. We did work on the hens and greys lol
Thanks for all the positive THF support. Y'all are awesome.

Being late for school...... reminds me of the good ole days when we did that growing up in Arkansas, back then we could leave the hole and drive to school with the guns in the truck.

So you admittingly lost a bunch of cripples and shot "extra birds" to get your 4 man limit? Nice....

Do you really think I was too lazy to go pick up nice greenheads? The creek was flowing really fast and If they were very alive they would dive and current would help them get away. Unlike yall nancys I don't pat myself on the back say I'll count that one. If they get away, it doesn't count to the limit. People who do that, probably never have the the problem with killing to many ducks anyway..

The limit is not in place as an ambiguous number to try and skate around, boy. There is a reason for the limit, and that is to insure there are still ducks around long after we are gone. If you wound a duck, then it is going to die. You count that duck toward your limit, even if you are too much of a Nancy to chase it down the creek. Sounds to me like somebody put a shotgun in your hand before they put ethics in your head. That's too bad.

I can see where youngin is coming from, for saftey reasons I wouldn't send my dog or myself in a flowing creek if its going as fast as he says it was.

After retention, the birds must be kept in an edible condition fit for human consumption. No person may pursue a wounded wildlife resource across a property line without the consent of the landowner of the property where the wildlife resource has fled or entered. Under the trespass provisions of the Penal Code, a person on a property without the permission of the landowner is subject to arrest He broke no laws. Lay off. Good hunt buddy.

I don't have an issue about not putting yourself or dog at risk to retrieve a wounded bird, in fact that is the prudent thing to do. But I thought a wounded bird that is not retrieved is counted as part of your bag per the regulations. Of course I can't find it now. I may be wrong.
Not trying to play internet game warden either, I just don't want misinformation to be passed along and somebody get in trouble because "Well, I read it on a forum!".

A reasonable effort must be made to retrieve,a bird that can't be retrieved doesn't have to count towards your bag. I think it comes down to each persons different ethics. Personally I count them, even in deer season. I fatally wounded a buck 2 years ago in a 1 buck county and never found him. Later in the season had a bigger buck at 80 yards centered the cross hair on his shoulder, took the safety off then watched him walk, couldn't do it. Took a few doe that season. Youngin' any reason for so many cripples you can think of, out of range, wrong shell/choke, just wondering if the problem can be fixed. I let em fully commit and only shoot out to 20 yards or so,1: less cripples,2: hunt last longer,3: I just enjoy the hunt if I don't get a limit that's fine.

Don't get me worng here 69, not wanting anyone to get hurt or dog hurt, but, you kill or wound a bird you can't get, count it towards your limit and be done. Otherwise, you could hypothetically shoot 30 birds, pick up 6 and call it a "limit". Do the ethical thing here instead of being concerned with posting up a picture of a bunch of birds on a hunting site so it looks good....

^^^^ Or just don't mention that you wounded a duck and couldn't retrieve it, we all know the internet preachers will hijack your thread.

Wait now we were all kids did any of us think that growing up i know I'n the 80s i was not thinking that with little ol 20g was not tell the 90s when i hunted with a old man that said we should only take what we plan to eat. So our kids could shoot. Maby I'n stead of yelling at someone we should teach. What wrong with people these days. What happened to Texens that helped another person out.
Rant over.

I thought the general consensus here on the THF is, if it's legal, it is ethical. Great hunt Youngin

Do you not know how to read?? He broke the effin law and then made the rookie mistake of posting it online....hmmm I'm going to go shoot 10 deer but only tag one of them or i'm gonna go catch 50 trout and only keep the biggest 10 fish and throw the others back

from the US Fish and Wildlife regulations.
"A person may not kill or wound any migratory game bird without making a reasonable effort to retrieve the bird and include it in the daily bag limit."
Interpret how you may....... I agree on including it in your bag limit.

Yeah I know how to read. Care to add a supportive sentence to how he broke the law or are you too dense to realize that your ethical beliefs and the written law, as posted above, do not corelate?
The law states "any wounded bird retrieved must be immediately killed and made a part of the bag limit. ". Please show me where the law states any wounded which is not recovered must be added to the bag limit before replying with more ranting jibberish.
