Now that the season is coming to an end its time to get ready for the duck and goose calling competitions, last year we had a few THF callers come out and compete and where very competitive I must say. So how many of you all are gonna get ready this year? We can use and we need some more callers from Texas to represent. Here are some of the THF callers from last years contest.

After 9 seasons of duck hunting, I still can’t call worth a crap. I need a duck calling lesson I think. CD will not help me, because I know what it should sound like, I just can’t get the call to sound like I want. I think I’m not opening my throat like what you posted about before.

Guy,what kind of call are you using for the stage? RNT Daisy Cutter is the call on my lanyard now. The first call I ever got was a sureshot, and I sounded pretty good with it, had several people tell me I sounded good. I lost it, and got another one, don’t think it was the same kind tho, and I never could get that one to sound right. Also got a Haydel DR-85, I think at one point (with a lot of practice), I was sounding ok with it. I can do a feed call pretty good I think.

I would not place in a Calling contest with 2 year olds. I can read ducks and get them to the decoys however.

R they going to have a calling contest at the cabelas in buda? This time of year you have to keep checking the Comp. calender on the site and it will post up every comp. in the USA month by month. Good luck to ya this year drakes only.

Ok Guy I can see why you feel like you are not getting your throat open enough when you run that call. The DC by RNT has to be one of the worlds best call ever made and honestly its a call made before its time. The reason why I say that is because 12yrs ago when they hit the market guys where buying them but weren't happy with them because we didn't know how to present air to them the right way and now that callers have advanced and younger callers are getting into the game and doing things on a call that us older guys never thought of,, that old DC is a sought after call now going for way over $400. I don't know which one you have but they are all still calls that demand the right air presentation. So I think its a throat thing with you Guy because you have been running calls too long to have a hang up any where else.So remember on that video I did that you HAVE to get that tongue out of the way, thats the only thing blocking the air flow and you do that by dropping the tongue down to the bottom of your mouth keeping it anchored there with the tip of tongue pressed against the bottom teeth using the mid part of your tongue to shut off the air when needed. The only time you will ever need the tip of you tongue to move is when doing a feed call.Try that out but give it time because the tongue is a muscle and it has memory in it that has to be broken.

Man I'm ready for it, I didn't get to run a single contest last year. Hope to change that this year.

When you posted that video, I said to myself at the time “that is my problem”, especially when you said “here is what it sounds like when you don’t open your throat”, and I was like “yep, that’s what I sound like”. I book marked it but have not revisited it again, nor practiced the exercises. I really lost interest in trying to improve several years ago, the hail/comeback call that is.. Einstein said the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. But you gave me something else to try this offseason, I’ll let you know if I got questions.
