I like to make some old fashion wooden duck decoys. Yall know a good type of wood to use. Maybe lake wood that's been floting already. Live in central area. Limited on types of wood.?

I used to do alot of Decoy carving, Competions in LA etc.

If you are serious about using them in a rig, buy Brown Cork. You can get a 4" or 6" Sheet pretty fair priced on Line. Tupalo or White Cedar are your next options. Dont use Red Cedar like we have around North Texas. But with the Cork you can get several cut outs from one sheet, you will use Cedar or Tupalo for the Heads and Tails.

This was in the New Orelans Show back in 2004

Below are some pics of Birds by some of the Master Class Carvers that I used to use for Reference.

Those decoys are to pretty to put in the water.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Joel, your decoys are a lot better looking than mine but a few of us started making decoys this year. We talked about having a "hand carved" decoy hunt only, but we kind of dropped the ball for a number of reasons.

Maybe next season. Sure would be fun to get some guys together for a high class, scotch and cigars weekend hunting over our own blocks.

Thanks for the nice compliment. Perhaps next year I will bust out the band saw and knock a couple out. Carved for about 6 yrs then just too busy with my job. Put everything away until I retired. But, I will take you up on the Offer. I Love a good Cigar and a Cold Beer

I better get carving. I might have to just commit to bringing the Scotch and Cigars.

Those are awesome Joel! As for Dave's I heard he was making them and I was very skeptical...I was very surprised with the finished products...they are pretty badass.

You can drink a sweet tea while we play pinochle, then.

Pinochle is high class, like scotch and cigars. I vote we play pinochle in the early evenings after hunting our decoys in the morning and taking a nap.
