Although I have not 100% commited myself to the 6.8 I still have a few questions about what is desirable in the barrel. First off is the twist. This is going to be strictly a hunting gun so what twist do you think would be best? My next question is the type of riflings. I see some that they have 3, 4, and 6 groves......Rainer has one with "Ratchet" riflings......and the Noveske I like has "Polygon" riflings. Is one better than the other? The one barrel that really catches my eye is this one here: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/694970/...ofile-gas-blockYour thoughts on that barrel are appreciated and if someone could expain to me what "6.8mm SPC Mod 1 Chamber" exactly is I would appreciate that as well. I know the difference between the SPC and SPC II chamber but the "Mod 1" thing is throwing me for a loop.

So far what I have come up with on the "Mod 1" chamber is that it has .100 freebore so it sure sounds like a SPC II chamber with a fancy name to me. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

AR Performance Talk to Harrison he will take care of you and is a wealth of 6.8 knowledge. The barrel will affect accuracy more than anything else. Don't go cheap on the barrel.

You are correct. As long as it was a Spec II, Mod 1, or 6.8x43mm you will be fine. I liked Noveske, White Oak, Wilson Combat, and I hear ARP makes a fine barrel. Its gonna cost ya but I would go with Noveske.

Have you looked at the 68forums? Plenty of great info there.

I have been reading some reviews on thier stuff on various sites and they seem to be puting out really high quality stuff. I will certinly give them a hard look when I am ready to buy.

I went with ARP also. They make good stuff.

It is whi I will use on parts for my next build. I even thought losing the 18" SPR barrel and P/U an ARP 16" LW Melonite coated barrel. Same me about 16oz/1lb in weight and 2 inches. White Oak Armament and Ranier have great barrels also. Mine in a WOA 18" SPR Stainless (41oz). ARP 16" LW 223 Wylde chamber Melonite coated is (25oz) ARP 16" Scout 6.8 barrel is 28oz...

I went with the CMMG gas-piston upper with the WASP coating. Which I believe is the melonite treatment. Shoots great.

ARP 16" Scout 6.8 barrel is 28oz... This is what I have. Complete upper w/the super bolt. GTG! The x43mm w/5R rifling seems to be the best option out there, especially for the $$$.

I shoot a Bison 18" SPR barrel, shoots real good for me, some people say it doesn't like the hornady ammo but I shoot SSA anyway and it's solid.

For those that are using the ARP stuff.....are you using the "Super Bolt" in your 6.8?? If so does that bolt work with other 6.8 chambers or is it something that can only be used with ARP barrels?

OK....I ended up sending them a E-Mail since I got no response to my question. I couldnt believe it but I even got a response at 10:30pm last night . So the answer to my question is YES they do fit other 6.8 chambers provided the chambers are not out of spec.

Yes the Super Bolt will work with ARP & other bbls. It is a little overkill as the 6.8 is no harder on a std bolt than a 223.

Yes I use it. Yes it's overkill. Rather overkill than underkill & the price difference is very minimal. ARP has great CS.
