If anyone has anymore personal stories or run ins with Gould please pm me. I have had some people do this already, but litegation will be in my near future and this guy needs to be put out of commission. This is the first crooked guy I have ever ran into in any outfitters for hunting and fishing and this guy is doing numerous things that are unsafe, against the law, and all of the above.

DK,

Had the same thing happen to me last year down here in South Texas. The guy who was leasing the property posts them on leasehunter.com guys name is Abraham Benavidez, so keep and eye out for this guy. He claimed it was a 350 acre lease huge bucks with nilgai all over the place looking for 4 guns only and so forth. Well after paying and such I go back to try and place my stand and the lock combination does not work. After making a couple of calls I get a call from the land owner and he tells me that this dude had leased the property out to 13 guys and the place was only about 250 acres. He had changed his phone number and doubt that anyone got there money back. So keep and eye for this mofo.

Just got back from a day hunt with Gould of RR12 outside of San Marcos. After the first hunt and listening to his BS riding to and from the blind I had a really bad vibe and knew I had made a mistake. None of the feeders were cleaned up or had any signage of deer or hogs yet he spoke about seeing "50 to 60 hogs" each night and running up on deer on all his rounds picking up hunters.

I also spoke with 5 or 6 other day hunters. Each and every one were shut out and did not see a single animal all weekend. They too were told repeatedly about him spotting deer in every feeder pen they happened to pass or hunt previously.

I really wish I had researched better as this could probably have been avoided. Just Google'd his phone number and several sites popped up describing exactly what I just experienced with Gould dating back to 2006.

This was my first day hunt experience as I have always had year round family leases in the past.

Lesson learned I guess

If you do not get a contract on your lease that states specific things , like sub leasing you will run into those problems. Landowners subleasing places is a big problem in south Tx, esp during quail season. Next time you get on a lease type up a contract and get your landowner to sign it.

Hmmm......I'm thinking maybe everyone needs to make some ghost appointments with him! You think he might get the message if everyone would make an appointment and no show "Jones" on him? grin

On a more constructive note, will TWPD get involved in a issue like this? Its just ridiculous if it has gone on since 2006!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about this. It bothers me that even in hunting there are no-good thieves out to take advantage of us.

I did my first day-lease this past weekend with Rouse Ranch in Halletsville, Tx. It was the exact OPPOSITE of what some of you guys experienced. We were told we would be the ONLY people on the entire property-and we were. We had the full run of the place to choose where we wanted to hunt from, and could switch stands at any time. There were more deer on this place than I have ever seen at one time anywhere else in my life.

I'm not trying to rub this in on those of you who have had bad experiences, but I just feel I got super lucky. We went out there on a referral from a friend. After reading some of these horror stories you guys have posted, I should call my friend and thank him profusely for the referral. For those of you who want to drive a little bit, check out Rouse Ranch. Mapquest shows it is only 1 hour & 30 minutes from San Marcos. Call Trent @ 979-732-7808 to book a hunt.

No, I don't work for them-I just had a really good experience and want everyone to know about them. Tell Trent that Kyle sent you! It is the best way I can think of to thank him (after his tip!) for a wonderful hunt.

That brings back memories. We were scammed on a day lease in Colorado County over 20 years ago. Later, in the same county, a friend and I noticed activity on his family property. We found the poacher's camp and called the game warden. They had leased a couple acres from the same no-good.

It would be good to have a list of day leases and outfitters that have been good, decent and honest folks.

Took my daughter to a good day lease near Llano this year. 2000 acres. Good deer population and hogs. My daughter took her first buck,(nice little 8 pt), doe and a pig. They offer bow and rifle with different types of stands. $400 a day. Call them @ 512-366-0626-Steven Rodgers. They do everything possible to get you on a deer.

Looks like Gould is still at it. Here's a Craigslist ad warning people about the guy.
http://austin.craigslist.org/spo/2941125280.html

Is this guy in Hays County? Just wondering because my best friend's brother-in-law is the Hays County sheriff and maybe I can ask him if there is anything he can do about this guy.

Yes, he is in Hays County. No, not much can be done. He offers hunts for sale. You buy a hunt and there is no guarantee of success. It's a civil matter, a contract, between two consenting people.

Buyer beware.

You would think that this guy would be in fear of running out of business after he has scammed everyone for so many years? Yes, there are good hunts and there are bad hunts. Your not going to take home an animal each time you go out, thats why it is called hunting but he should do his part of making it a decent hunt. I would feel horrible for not giving the hunters a chance to take an animal, or at least for taking their money and putting them in a spot with no game. Carma will get him before a P'od hunter does.

"There's a sucker born every minute" is a phrase often credited to P. T. Barnum (1810–1891), an American showman. It is generally taken to mean that there will always be many gullible people in the world.

There's trash like him all over the state. Too uneducated, dumb and lazy to get a real job so he prays upon those that are too trusting. He's been doing this for years, yet always seems to have a new crop of victims each and every year.

Bottom line is that you cannot simply go off someone's word. Deal with reputable folks, contact references and don't enter into agreements without a contract that offers protection on both sides. The days of doing business on a handshake are done because guys like this. Don't be a sucker.

This is great! As a consumer I think you have a responsibility to other consumers to give feedback and reviews. That is how we weed out the good and the bad. It is just as important to warn others of bad operations as it is to praise the best ones! This will make all of our hunting that much better!

I was hoping i never heard Ken Goulds name again.Several years back he offered a hunt for exotics. Tree huggers had bought a hi fence next to his ranch and released them and they were all over his place. His website showed a 4 star resort with a open bar. I rounded up 8 hunters ,some who were going for the open bar, and headed to wimberley. According to Gould we were going 2 weeks after the fence was cut.We had a glorified hog hunt no exotics and no open bar.I called him out on both he said he made it clear to me it was a hog hunt and never would have a open bar.

I finaly told him he needed to check his website for the open bar which he did and acted shocked when he saw it on there. Some of the guys were upset with me because we went on a pig hunt so i got them together and we called him from a different number and they all heard the same story i originally heard about exotics everywhere. We just chalked it up as a loss and killed pigs, but he is a crook in everyway possible so BEWARE.
