I am wondering what the approximate value would be on an older Bear Whitetail II? It comes with a hard case, about 6-8 arrows, and release. It's obviously used, but everything seems fine. Good starter bow for not much $$$?

$50, if you really want it. If it's someone you like that is.

Yes it has the case, release, arrows, complete. I realize this is an old, outdated bow. But, it still shoots good, and was still being used within the past year or so. It's my friend's bow that was handed down to him from family. I'll be honest, I'm just getting started, and CAN'T spend $300 right now for a decent starter bow. Have you ever been there, I'm sure most of you have. I can get this for a C-note. It might get me something to learn on, and upgrade when the time comes. Plus, no shipping, that'll save me 25-30 bucks right there.

My dad shot a Bear Whitetail for years when he first got into bow hunting. Shot several deer with it also. The bow shot great. Sure it is not one of the new fancy bows, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it is not a good bow. If the bow is in good shape, I would definately buy it. Great bow to start out with, to learn with and to see if it is something you are going to like.

Thanks for the replies. Everything seems to be in great shape, but I'm gonna show it to my neighbor today and see what he thinks. He's been into bowhunting for a few years, and between listening to him, watching videos, and reading magazines, I've learned quite a bit already. I think I'll check this bow out a little first to see if it's worth it.

Bear whitetail II was my first bow. I killed 3 or 4 deer and a few pigs with it. It worked great as a starter bow. Get some good arrows for it though, my old aluminum ones would bend up real bad.

I started with one too. Good bow, forgiving and solid. Just slow.

Yeah I hunted with one many years ago. Not a bad beginner bow, slow, but it will do the trick.

This is one of those cases where, hopefully, it has some sentimental value because it doesn't have much street value. I killed over a dozen deer with one of the original Bear Whitetails (6 wheels) and would still be shooting it if I hadn't accidentally dry-fired it and cracked a limb. My wife bought it new in a store for $60 and a set of limbs were going to cost $50. I figured that was an omen that I needed to upgrade. I tried a bunch of compounds (I shoot a longbow now) and I never found one that I could shoot as well as that old Bear.
Lots of people fall into that mindset that if it's new and expensive, it shoots better. It doesn't matter how well the bow shoots. All that matters is how well you shoot the bow.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

I agree but I gave $65 for one brand new in '88 I think. $100 bucks is high and I was serious about the $50 I suggested. I killed 4 or 5 deer with mine and still regret giving it to my brother. Especially because he only hunted one year with it and it has sat in his closet since.

Passthru, First, I appreciate your's and everyone's replies and opinions on this thread. I'm torn on this bow. I have shot it, and of course right now I suck. My groups are sporadic, to say the least. Tonight, I broke two practice arrows in my pasture, so I called it a night. Obviously it's gonna take me awhile. My friend is good, but he has about a 3 year head start. He also has a much better bow. I can spend $100 on this bow, which might be too much according to some, but it would give me something to learn on. On the other hand, I could put that towards a better bow. I know, I know, it's my decision. I might try to make a trade for it, that would be better all the way around. I like the bow, but I would definately change the arrow rest, don't care for it at all. By the way, it doesn't seem that slow to me. I've buried a few arrows with it and I know it has plenty of power, that being said by a rookie. Anyway, you guys bear with me on this, I'm trying to learn. Thanks.

We were all rookies once but us lucky ones had a mentor to help us. Mine was an older fellow who was about the same age I am now and it was a tremendous advantage to have him. The bow is definitely a good bow, especially if you have a good range finder, just a C note is high but if it is worth it to you then spend the money. I garanty the bow will be deadly for you once you set it up right and practice. What's your draw length?
