Been shooting xperts most of the season cuz they pattern better than black clouds for me. But, can only figure that moisture got to them, I fired 5 times to only hear a click this mornin. Only got one greenhead. SHoulda had 3 and 3 gaddies. Then wind and bass fisherman finished my mornin at 10. Birds worked perfect and had them all dead to rights. Live and learn. Anyone suggest a load more durable? I'm shootin a nitro mag 887, bought it when it came out for first gun last year and have had to send it back. The armorlokt crap is just that. Friction between surfaces sucks. I shoot fine with it but plan on new gun before next year. Anyhow, fixin to head to store and get couple boxes of shells to see me to the end. Usin full choke.

Moisture in shells? Sounds like it may be a firing pin issue. It would take some serious moisture to get into the shells that are well sealed against moisture.

All I shoot it Winchester Xperts. I've never had any problems with any of their shells. I dropped a few in the water last year and had found them in my bag this season. Forgot I picked them up out of the water. They had a little rust on the brass, so I used them for downed swimmers. No problem.

Kent's is a great shell, just getting a little costly now days

I had a box of experts do the same thing earlier this year. They had been in my bag for a while and picked up some moisture.

Ive already checked firing pin, and casings, primers for proper contact etc. Its only those shells that did it so, Im assuming it was the shells. I've shot shells before that had gotten wet and sat up, but I'm thinkin thats the prob with these. Ill probably fire a box of low brass shells I have to make sure but I've looked at the pin already. As i said earlier though I will be gettin a new gun next year hopin for a good auto but pump is fine too depends on what I can spend:)

Hypersonics if you can find them.

Some shells are more "water resistant" than others. Some have sealed crimps some don't. But in the end you might of had trouble with any shell based on what happened to the shells in question. I'd say make a better effort to protect your shells. I keep mine in a blind bag and if I know it's going to rain I'll even use some ziplocks to keep most of them dry.

I'd also advise against doing what Ridinghigh9 did...the thing is if you have rust on the outside of the shell you could have rust on the inside. Steel shot rusts and in the process can kind of fuse together and create a slug....which could end up causing issues with your barrel. Low chance of something bad happening but I'd rather waste a shell than blow up a barrel.

Thanks for feedback. I have heard all good about Kent fasteel haven't shot yet. Plan too. I like the hypersonics used to have at wall mart. They snapped the rails on the speed pump I used last year lol. I liked them in my gun too. I'll be alot more precise with details next year. That'll be my 3 rd year into it. Learned a few hard lessons this year.

Kent Faststeel is/are great shells, but are bad about not being waterproof. I "waterproof" my reloads with a little dab of clear silicone right in the center of the crimp. This can be done with factory shells also.

FWIW, the shell with the best reputation for staying dry is the Winchester DryLock's.

Not the shells. Had the same gun had every kind of problem you could ever imagine with it. Feeding problems, wouldn't eject, jammed. Then recently I had it misfire 8 times in one morning. The firing pin wasn't hitting the primer. Couldnt take it anymore so I Took it to a pawn shop and sold it for 200 bucks yesterday. Biggest piece of chit shotgun ever made.

I love kents but agree with redgun had some.left over from a coast hunt figure I would shoot them up..second round plugged my barrel last year with wad, did some quick thinking and used layout blind rod to unplug it.

Never had an issue with hypersonics..if you can find them

Great shells...but by far the worst for soaking up water when they get dunked. Everybody I know stoped using them for that sole reason.

Cheap blue box Federals at Rogers for $99 a case are good shells and much better than X-perts.

Man I was beginning to wonder if I just got a few bad flats by reading all the praises on this thread. I've noticed the same thing. Kents suck if you dunk them. They pattern great in my gun, and I shoot them well. However, they are about the dirtiest shell along with all the non-fires from getting wet I stopped using them.

I reload 100% of my steel shells now for duck hunting. After my final crimp I put a dab of silicone over the crimp. Knock on wood, but I've yet to have a non fire due to getting wet.
