what brand of duck shotgun would you guys recommend. Thinking about getting into duck hunting. I know that I need to buy some decoys aswell. How many of those are legit to use?

Started out as an evening hunt in the stand. Ended up being a siesta til 9pm.

Depends on how much you want to spend. For the price, you can't beat the 870.

Love the Browning Maxus. That would be my choice.

I'm with the 870 crew. I've used mine for 4 years now. When I pull the trigger it always goes boom. Duck hunting is an expensive sport. Buy what you need right now. Stockpile your goods then upgrade the shotty. I plan on getting a top end gun in a few years. Getting my own dog comes first.

I'm shooting a Benelli Nova and haven't had any problems with it. I've got an 870 too, but it's wood and I'm a little hesitant to use it much because I got it after my dad passed away.

I shoot a benelli M2, there are other guns just as good. Reason I chose this gun was because it feels good to me. You can have the best shotgun out there but if it doesn't fit you then you'll never be able to shoot to your full capability.

Benelli, Beretta, Browning are all solid guns as well as the Winchester SX3

Remington 870s are great guns, but the newer models aren't what they used to be. Remington has dropped in quality for sure, parts are pretty cheap now. If you want an 870 express...look for an older one. You can read crappy reviews just by using google search.

Now if you get a 870 Wingmaster, your golden.

It really is a nice, soft shooting gun, I've just become an O/U fan.

I really don't want to spend more than $700 for a decent shotgun.

I agree. One thing that just makes it easier to maintain is if it is going to be a duck mainly gun to go ahead and get one camo'ed. Not because it looks cool but because the finish won't rust.

The Maxxus and SX3 is the exception to the camo finish...they have a finish that is better than what Beretta and Benelli put on their blued guns. Dura something is what Browning/Winchester call it.

I hunted for many, many years with a Remington 870. Burglars relieved me of it. Have hunted with a Benelli Super Nova the last few years and love it. I bought the Super Nova used for $200. Very good buy.

x2 - Browning BPS is an excellent gun and pump action is very reliable -- especially when wet and muddy which invariably happens. I hunted with one for the past 20 years and still love it. Last year I got the Benelli Super Black Eagle II -- I've enjoyed it and havent had any problems with it although I've found that I burn through the shells quite a bit faster than with the pump action.

Save up and get a Browning Citori. Never a cycling problem. Two chokes. Classic good looks, durability, handling and something you can pass down to your kids or grandkids someday. I can't stand the looks of the new autos all camo'd up. Guess I'm just old school, but a gun barrel should be blue and the stocks should be wood. Just sayin'.

you need to go into a store and hold every shotgun they have. Pick out the one that shoulders and feels the best in YOUR hands.
