I picked up one of these off this forum a few weeks ago. Set it up and followed the instructions. Got ready to run some charges to see how well it works.
I charge 42.5 grns of Varget in my .308 loads (LC Match brass, BR2 Match primers, 168 gr SMK).
So I punch in 42.5 into the machine, it trickles up to 42.5, beeps and then displays a weight that is a whole grain over 42.5 (43.5-43.6).
I'm not sure what is happening. I cross checked the charges on my beam scales and I get about a grain heavy. Does anybody here use one of these and have this same problem?

I have not used that one but have the Hornady version. One thing to check is the level of the setup, if it is not level it can often drop a little more. Another thing is some extra powder can fall out of the tube as it trickles the last in. There was a thread in the last few months that used a straw in the powder tube to help with this.
Also not sure about the version you have but slowing down the speed of the trickle might help also. Slows the process a little but if getting more accurate drops at slower speed then it might be faster.
Good luck, if I can find the mentioned thread will post the link

Do you have the black trickle adapter in the end of the feed tube?

Mine came with a black cap for the end tube. I put a level on my bench and it's perfectly level. I read through the manual to try and find out how to slow down the speed of the trickle but no luck. here's a link to the manual --> link <--

I can offer experience with the RCBS chargemaster that may help.
THIS PROCESS IS NOT IN THE OWNERS MANUAL BUT IS AVAILABLE BY SPEEKING WITH A RCBS TECH
The RCBS unit is reprogramable. It has three speeds for the powder conveyor. Fast, slow and trickle. Fast and slow have trigger weights to switch to the next lower speed. So I have mine set for fast to slow trigger @5gr's and slow to trickle at 1.5gr's from target weight. Some powders on the first throw acts the same way as yours but the second and subsequent throws are all good. I programmed it this way to speed up the process and cut powder drop times in half. I can bak off on the slow to trickle weight and this will never happen but adds more time to the process.
Since all of these elctronic powder scale and dispensers combo's use a processor the should be programamble. I would contact the manufacturer and see if it is user programable like the RCBS.

In reading the manual the OP provided I do noe see a speed setting other than normal and trickle. I would through more charges and see if it gets any better. but the other option is to have it run up to say 1.5 grains lower them the manual trickle as described in the manual. A call to LYMAN would not be a bad idea either

I find that if I throw 41 grains (it drops 42) and then manually slow trickle the last .5 gr to get to 42.5 it is spot on every time. I'll call Lyman in the AM but it would suck to have to do it this way all the time. Sort of defeats the purpose of the unit.

Know what ya mean. I do not have to do that with the Hornady, do have an occasional overcharge but there are not many of those. Think 2 in the last 60 rounds I loaded

If you are loading and leave the tray there it may get more pwdr in it..It must be dumped when it fills..Did you let the machine have the pwr on for 24hrs prior to using it..I've used mine for more than a yr and love it..My buddy just purchased one and he loves his..Read your manual..Don

I did leave the power on for the 24 hours. Read the manual a half dozen times too. Hopefully Lyman will be able to help me.

You can use a straw or some kind of tube that fits over the powder dispensing tube, and it will help keep it from clumping up. I always run them about .1 to .2 grains under, and trickle up. If you don't trickle, just tap on the tube to get a few more kernels to drop to reach your desired weight.
Years ago I posted a thread on another forum on how to reprogram the RCBS CM. I recommend it if you can.

It's not clumping. I'm dropping Varget. It dispenses neat.

It's still throwing more powder than what you want. When the tube slows down to only throw a small amount, it is releasing more than it needs to. If you add an extra tube to the outside to extend the tube about 1/8" to 1/4", it will help make the slow speed trickle more accurate and keep from dumping more powder than needed.

I'd call Lyman about it. I am not familiar with this thrower. All these type powder dispensers should slow down to a trickle right before it reaches it's charge weight. That's not happenening here. You could always have it throw the 1 to 1.5 grains short of your desired charge weight.

Just got off the phone with Lyman. We were able to fix the issue over the phone. Turns out there is an additional trickle reducer cap (absolutely no mention of it in the manual) threaded for the end tube. I installed it and it works great now. Runs up to 42 grains and slowly trickles the balance +/- .1 grn

I have an RCBS and it will throw a heavy charge every once in a while. It like the smaller grain powders, if I load imr 7828 it will throw heavy charges more often than if im using benchmark.
If it throws a heavy one I will either dump it and start again or dump a little back ino the hopper and put it back on the scale and use the manual trickle feature to get it back. Of course this is all to +/- a 1/10 of a grain as that is as precise as my scale gets. You have to keep an eye on it though.
