You might think that this is a "Bucket List" thing . . . wrong . . do it once and you will be doing it again!

VERY VERY FUN and a must do.

Hurry up and book your trip as this is one of those things that may not be available to us forever.

The outfitter in the video is "Tusks and Tines" in Knox City.
I had a fantastic shoot with them. Shane, Dustin and the guys are great.

I don't see what's so great about it.

I just don't understand. I read this forum quite a bit. I constyantly see people ridiculed for "unethical" shots and hunting practices. BUt if it's an unethical shot from a helo it is somehow ok? I understand a hog isn't a game animal, but it is still a living animal. Why is it ok to make it suffer but not a whitetail? I guess I just don't understand.

i wanna play and any person who uses the words "ethics" in the same sentence with "hogs" has never been with a farmer who just saw 1/2 of his income disappear because of one species of animals...

i dont care if some folks "dont get it". That is until they try and stop me from doing it.
I'll be going again and doing my part to eradicate as many hogs as possible.
You dont need to thank me when your beef cost stays below $10 a pound because cattle ranchers are able to grow feed in Texas instead of buying it from non-infested states.

Just curious . .
What "ethical" means do you propose to use to eradicate hogs from agricultural areas ?
To help you do the analysis and prepare your response, the helicopter enables the shooter to dispatch approx. 30 hogs an hour on average. Only the targeted animal is harmed (no deer, turkeys, song birds, etc.) Please propose a method with similar or higher kill rates and equal efficiency that doesnt cause the poor little pig to "suffer".

I have no solution for hogs. I understand that this is a good way to put a dent in the population of hogs. I just don't understand how people can be okay with this, but will turn around and jump on a guy for making a headshot on a deer, or make the argument that bowhunters wound more than they kill, or roast a guy for shooting a younger deer.

Just curious, have you known any of these guys who have posted positive comments regarding this issue been known to you to have "jumped on anyone for unethical hunting as you have described?
Or are you simply lumping everyone on this board into one personality and holding these fellows accountable?
Irregardless, this state and others are dealing with an epidemic, not an issue, not a problem, a freeking epidemic.
You obviously have not stood with a farmer and have seen it written on their faces.
These situations require different answers than some are comfortable with.
Not blaming you or saying that your even wrong, I appreciate how you care for all of God's creatures and yes if possible they all deserve to be taken cleanly with as little suffereing as possible.
However that thinking is useless in this case, its beyond that, far beyond that .
The only real problem that I see with the video of heli hunting is that we are often our own worse enemies, we can't keep from bragging about it, making it especially tasteless and worst of all public.
These kinds of videos in my opinion are dang liable to bite us in the butt someday when public opinion is required for another vote .
That would be a shame, as it is very effective.

This isn't the first thread about this topic. There have been tons. The concencus has been that it is not only acceptable, but cool to do. The concencus about head shots/neck shots on deer is that it is unethical. That is why I wuestion this.

Another thing, yes, I have "stood with a farmer" and discussed this issue. I trapped for a few years to help some of them out with their problem. Fact is, this "epidemic" of hogs you speak of is quickly becoming nothing more than a way to make money. If it weren't a money scheme, no one would offer these helo hunts. They would simply hire hands to help. But, the profits are way higher when you're selling the opportunity to play like Rambo and shoot from a helo.

Your right, it is for sure a money scheme I agree. But it is one that is doing a whole lot of good, and yet again flying those choppers ain't cheap so no one is getting rich I imagine.
But if somehow they are well more power to em, I like to see people doing well and making money in these times.
What strikes me kind of odd about your posts however is that of course you are smart enough to know that a forum board like this is going to attract all sorts, and I mean ALL sorts. If you personally did know fora fact that one of these guys who have posted is that kind of hypocrite, and they darn well might be I don't know, then you have a point.
If you are bitching about the board as a whole well then we might as well just start talking politics instead of hunting.

Hunters and shooters are some of the finest people who ever lived and some of the worst, don't need to tell you that however.
You sound like one of the good ones, but heck what is wrong with someone making money? specially if its doing some good? now if you want to bitch about something lets bitch about the indian casinos..

And as for hypocrites, well hell your going to have some born every minute.

As a few people have said already, its one of the most enjoyable shooting events I have done. I've done a two of them so far and will be doing my third in March. I'll have some better video this time as well smile

It will all be fun till the first chopper crashes. Not a matter of if it will happen but rather when it will. Just heard about a crash in McCulloch county couple of weeks ago. Pilot said he is probably done flying after 30+ yrs. Said it was his first and last crash.

The subject should be changed to hog shooting rather than hunting. I don't care who for what reason does this or how much money is being made etc... but this is not hunting.
