So I got permission to hunt a new peice of property that has a lake on it with a shallow pond about 100 yards away. When I hunted the other morning I put out 3 dozen decoys. They only problem was there was about 500 coots that live in the middle and all the good ducks would land with them not my decoys. I talked to the owner about this and he said to hunt the little pond and it would draw them over. What do yall think

Well, as someone once told me, what bar you want to go to?
Do you want to visit that small bar on the corner, or the big one across the street loaded with action?
Put out your deeks, make sure you've got cover, and don't let the coots sit in the middle of the pond. Shot in there direction to get them up.

If you can, I'd scout it a morning and watch to see what the ducks want to do naturally. Settup where and how they want to sit naturally. If you can't do that, take the landowner's advice. He's probably watched it a whole lot more mornings than you have.
If hunting the small pond doesn't work and you can very much tell the ducks want to go land with the coots. I'd go coot hunting until they leave. You can shoot 15 in a day, so take a buddy and get rid of them. Donate the meat to hunter's for the hungry... settup the day or so after with about two or three dozen decoys painted black. Done deal. I might not suggest this early in the year but with 2.5 weeks left, that's what I would do.

No Mojo, but a jerk line a must. You can easily rig a quick jerk line.
The birds have probably seen over 10k mojos so far on there way down. Not good this late in season

The owner probably knows what he is talking about as he has probably seen them go to the small pond. I would listen to him and give his advice a try. Many times the land owner can give the best advice on where to hunt thier property as they know it better than anyone. And don't use 3 dozen decoys this time of year. Ducks are smart to decoys now. Dozen and a half with a good jerk line.

The lake is to big I shot at the coots several times and they just sit like nothing happened You should take myself and a couple of other friends. We can sit around the lake and help with the coots!
I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.
