I'm thinking no. But anyone actually tried? My .223 sure is a tack driver with them.

nope i haven't shot any pigs with em, but have shot enough other varmints to know that they are going toperform about on par with the ballistic tip as far as sudden and violent expansion at 223 velocities.
going to be too fragile for reliable penetration in my opinion , at least up close, now if they are out there a ways such as a couple hundred yards where some velocity has bled off they will hold together a little better i would believe. not saying i would not shoot em with em, hell i would shoot pigs with whatever i had in my hand,s but there are better choices by far for putting pigs on the ground reliably in that caliber. so i'm thinking that your thinking is right.

Dropped em dead out of my .22-250 with no problems.

I usually shoot the tipped tsx, but it's a new rifle load devolpment is still under going. I just picked up a couple boxes of the v-max for brass, and the rifle sure loves them.

I would think that if you have been shooting pigs with the tsx and are used to ttheir performance your going to be sorely dissapointed with the vmax. Don't get me wrong I love em, they are as good a light skinned varmint bullet as a man could ever want for critters up to about coyote size.
But personally I would say stick with the tsx for anything pig size and above and shoot the hornady's at lighter critters and you will better served.

I would think a neck/ear shot would drop them with just about any caliber. I've seen post that folks are killing pigs with a 17HMR. Shot placement I guess. I've got a 223 tack driver as well but never popped a hog with it, yet. I've got about 300 rounds of the vmax so I guess I should give it a go.

No. Unless the shot is perfect, they can "blow up" at entry.

My dad shot 3 hogs with them. 1 earholed DRT, 2 through the shoulder dropped and died quickly but they were both 60 pounders. I have personally used it for head and neck shots with great success but if you are trying to get multiple hogs after the first shot I wouldnt recommend it.

If you shoot them right it will kill them but I wouldnt take the chance. They are to fragile for me. The only time I have ever seen them shoot something it was a coyote and it splashed. Found blood where it was shot then never found the coyote.

58 gr. VMaxx out of the .243 will do the job with good shot placement. Seen plenty of big boars dropped with them.

When I get the chance to shoot one, that's what I'll be using!! Course I'll be going for the ear!!! Very accurate in my AR, I'm using the 60gr. variety.

Here y'all go again..Anything you shoot including a 22 CB Short
will kill with perfect shot placement..Irregardless of groups, ect
Hunting we owe the animal the courtesy of a clean kill..V Max,
ballistic tip Nosler Varmit projectiles are varmit bullets..You
will have an animal run perfectly hit with a good projectile designed for the job occasionally..but shooting target or varmit
bullets at hogs will get you in trouble unless you use extreme
shooting discipline..Remember that when they run off...Course, we
aren't running out of pigs..either..Good Hunting..DD

Irregarless is not a real word. But I wouldn't use them on pigs. I have a bunch for my AR but I reserve them for varmints. I shoot a bonded bullet for larger game.

VMax 55 gr is more than fine. I drop them under the feeder everytime with my swift. Just gotta hit'em in the neck. If its the football size piglets, I often get two-fers if they line up right.

Shot a 60 pound sow with a 110 V-Max out of my 300BLK about an hour ago.
Much to my surprise, it went completely thru her.
Was out looking for yotes when the piggie showed up.

I've killed dozens of hogs up to 160 lbs. and deer with .223 55gr V-Max. I've never had one "blow up" on entry. Very few exit holes but not one got away.

Here's one from a few weeks ago. Entrance just behind the shoulder, quartering away.

We have used the 60 grain V-max with ok results. They heavier the bullet you use, the better the penetration.

DING! DING! DING! WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

You are absolutely right.
Every bullet in the world will just lay there until you load it and turn it into ammo.
Then you have to install it into your weapon of choice.
Next and most important: YOU actually have to be able to shoot and hit what YOU are aiming at.
ONLY if you meet ALL that criteria will ANY BULLET do it's job.

See how tuff it is to be a bullet...unless you are a "poser bullet"

In a separate test, we hired 20 Tibetian Monks to watch a group of unloaded bullets to see of they blew up or bounced off but all the monks died while waiting and watching and as far as we know, the bullets just sat there becoming corroded over time....

Vmax is fine (lots of dead pigs don't seem to care that they were shot with a .17 hmr, for example) but it's probably good policy to place your shots ahead of the shoulder. My 20" 1:8 twist really seems to like the 60 grain partitions - maybe another option to consider.

I shoot a .223 68gr hpbt and they do bounce off of big boar skulls. Took way to many rounds to knock down a 300+ lb boar last week. Wasn't expecting him to be there...surprised him and us as we were rolling from one feeder to another. 18 total rounds fired in a hurry and the only one that made it all the way in was through the ear hole. Thinking of going to a 72gr penetrator.

My first blush is that this is probably a marketing gimmick. I'm not sure those would do anything that a .223 core-lokt wouldn't do.

I took my 243 with 58 grain V-Max rounds and ended up losing a nice pig cuz I hit him but we couldn't track it down. I think the shot placement was good, but cant be sure. They are extremely accurate in my ruger 243, but in my opinion, they aren't enough to consistently take down pigs. I wanna kill the biggest pig I can, and the big ones are the most likely to get away, so it's not worth it to me. If I'm going huntin where I know there are pigs, I will have the 300 win mag with me from now on.
