I drove up on a #200 or so boar this evening about 30 yards inside my fencline, I got within 50 yards with my Ruger No.1 .22-250 and put a 55 grain into his heart zone, he spun around and came right at me, my pistol and shotgun still in my truck, I reloaded and shot him again at almost point blank as he went by me about 8 feet to my right. he went into a dry creek bed, I got my 12 gauge with 00 buck at about 5 feet,and fired. I put a .45 colt 260 grain Buffalo Bore in his chest area, I could still hear him breathin when I walked off at dark, tell me hogs aint tough. I love hog huntin, cant wail til tomorrow.

why didnt you shoot him in the head ? just sayin one shot one kill

One shot with a 22 long rifle to the noggin has put down many hogs. shot placement is the most important factor.

I kill more hogs in a week than 90% of the readers here kill in a year. I kill then with .17hmrs up to .308s, I trap em, deal with em every day, did i say I was bragging? I said I made good shots and he was still alive. tomorrow I will kill more hogs while most people sit and wish they could be out there. no brag...just fact !

if you can make the shot, most people cant and sometimes it aint that easy. if you hunt enough you should know that.

There is a lot more hogs killed and a lot more opinions formed from a keyboard in this world than ever get whacked in the bush.
There are a few more that get killed from a blind from a dead rest at baited stands.
Then there are all of the rest and that includes situations like this hunter has described, in the rough taking the best shot you can that is going to be lethal.
Sounds like a good job and some good shooting and the best thing is that there is another one gone.

good story,i dont miss either my catch dog catch on the ear and its a done deal and it dont matter the wieght of hog.i just remeber that my cd wiegh 55 lbs,lol keep up the good work .

Cool story, my buddy shot one 230lb and it took two 300 win to put him down. He didn't get a clear head shot and it charged him...too funny

I dont think he charged, he just happened to run in my direction. I wont get out of my pickup without my .44 mag, .45 colt for backup again.

Irregardless of what kind of animal you are harvesting, shoot enough and you'll have one that is hard to die or run off...and
it doesn't matter what they are shot with or where they are hit..
ie:I shot a wounded ancient doe in the head with a 300 Weatherby
180 gr Nosler BT Ballistic tip...she'd been hit thru both shoulders and ran..Hit her running at about 350yds..Still had to
track her and finish her..most of her head and part of her jaw
was gone...So old her hide was inside her ribs and she had about
3 or 4 colors of hair..smooth mouthed..DD

I don't kill alot I mostly catch them alive with dogs n Ty the up , but one I do shoot them my favorite gun is 22 mag an belive me it's one shot to the head an they anit moving

Every once in a while you run upon one that doesn't want to die.

Well, that part does seem kinda like bragging.

Had a 101 lb'er on a snare. Snare was kinked so we decided to shoot instead of approaching to tie up and sell.Besides that it was good eating size.

My son ask if he can use his 9mm since it is a smaller and i say yes.

1st shot hits in the back of the head. He runs away from but snare jerks his rear back.

He then turns around, charges us and my son shoots again.HIT.At 3 feet I expect the snare to jerk him back. WRONG snare broke where it was kinked the hog takes 2 more 9mm at point blank range and runs 2 feet to the left of us and proceeds to run over 200 yards to thick brush.

He have to walked 30 feet into the brush before we find him.Se he went a little over 200 yards with 4 confirmed bullets in him. When gutted the left lung was just exploded and nothing left of it. Hole in top of skull on the back side.



It's not always bam and dead. Mother nature has some tough buggers out there. that's what make hunting so fun and I CAN SEE exactly how this would have been bad to the bone to have happen.

Mother nature is amazing some times. If everybody was bam and dead, hunting would be some boring stories to tell and this forum would be dead.
