Never seen the plastic measuring device before- seen the magnetic shot checker, but they still made us disassemble and show the solid plug. It was NY, so that may explain things... other one was a USFWS you should have just told them you had a maxus and that made you above the law
Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

Ya have you ever seen a Game Warden take someones gun apart to see what stops more than 2 shells? No! The either try to put more than 2 shells in or have a little piece of equipment that does the same thing.

Any warden is going to try and stick two - 2 3/4 inch shells into Your gun magazine. Lots of guns wont hold 3 - 3 inch or 3 - 3 1/2 inch shells in the Magazine. Make sure You gun wont hold 3 - 2 3/4 inch shells.

I get my gun checked ALL the time. Been stopped MANY times for shooting 4 shots per flock of Birds. Every GW had the same funny look on His face when I pull out the Cynergy O/U.

I don't ever use a plug. Not ever. No GW has ever asked me about it either.

I use a stick for a plug in one old gun I have since I think it was made before plugs were required (1941). Some day I might find the perfect piece of plastic to cut to the right length.

I have used tree limbs whittled down to size for a forgetful buddy. Not hard to plug a gun in the field.

I know it's too late now, but maybe to help the next guy...you could have used a couple of spent shells. Just put them "above" the spring so they won't try to feed.
David
good call for next time. NO! Horrible idea and still not legal. Magazine has to be plugged with a one-piece filler that restricts the magazine to a capacity of no more than two shells. While your point is valid that he's supposed to have a one piece plug, he said he couldn't find anything to use to plug it, and I figure trying the two shells is at least a chance to not get the ticket vs the 100% chance of the ticket without anything in there. Heck, if you wanna go with "one piece" just ram a bunch of mud in the end of the mag tube...it's "one piece of mud"

If anything, put something in there longer than the plug so you def can't get more than 2 in there..you may only be able to get one, but that's better than a ticket.

The game wardens that I have encountered have asked for my gun and three live shells. After clearing the chamber they inserted the two and tried to insert the third, emptied the mag and handed my gun back to me.

The checker stick they had to check my gun was a plastic or rubber piece. One end check the shell capacity of the mag tube and the other had a magnet in it. Dual purpose if you knwo what I mean. Double dippin so to speak.

Everytime I have been checked, it was either with the plastic "tube" or with shells.
We had a GW check us dove hunting one time. One of the guys we were hunting with did not have a plug, but was only loading 3 at a time. He honestly had no idea it wasn't in the gun. The GW made the comment that he had been watching and confirmed that the guy had not loaded more than 3. Wrote him a ticket with a note on it, and went and made the guy a plug with a small branch so he could keep hunting. Ticket was $25 and the judge said he would have dropped it, but he was covering the court cost for the paper work.

If you think your plug ticket is bad, a couple years ago I got a $290 "littering" ticket for not picking up 3 shotgun shells that were in the mud. Those little small things always end up costing the most. I feel your pain.

Why not buy another plug and keep it in your blind bag?
I keep a couple of un-cut plugs in my bag, had a buddies son show up without a plug, un-cut it made his Remington a 2 shot. They are less than $6 online + shipping.
