Anyone ever dyed raffia green to look like winter wheat to use on a layout blind? If so, how'd it work out for you?

The killer weed I have seen looks like easter basket grass. I ordered some other stuff from Rogers and it should be here today. I'll let you know what I think.

I've got some killer weed that should deliver today, but I read the same thing about it looking like Easter basket grass after i ordered it, so its most likely going back to Cabelas. I dyed up a batch of raffia last night using a color recipe I found online and Ive got to say it looks pretty darn close to winter wheat. I'd post a pic, but I don't know how to do all that jazz.

Just spray paint the stuff...
the thing about baiting is, even a rookie hunter could have a 170 bird season if they bait holes

Thats exactly what you want to do Duckedup is dye your own.Every field is a little different color of green than the next, what I do is get a sample out of the field we hunt and go to the store and find a bottle of the Rid dye like the green of the field and boil your water out side on the coleman in a big pot put the dye and raffia in and let it go for bout 15 min then let dry.FYI dont use any Killer Weed unless your making Easter baskets.

Thanks for the advice Muddyfoot. That's exactly what I did last night, I figured there had to be someone else that had tried it before.

I can't imagine trying to mess with that stuff and dye. What a pain in the [censored]! I hope this stuff works cuz I sure don't want to deal with all that dying crap.
Just putting the grass on a brand new blind in the house it was everywhere.

I buy the cheap raffia grass at Walmart. It's a fraction of the cost of killer weed. I keep a can of brown and green spray paint in my layout blind and customize the color based on the surroundings each other.

i like smoking raffia from time to time you got me...that is FUNNY! It wouldn't surprise me of anything you Austin guys smoke Also...the rafia you buy at Walmart or Hobby Lobby (where I have bought it) isn't the same as the avery grass. I don't know what is different but the Avery grass feels more durable.

I picked mine up from Academy and from Michaels craft store. It really wasnt too big of a mess, more time consuming than anything.

Muddyfoot- when you dye raffia, do you use the cup of salt and the teaspoon of detergent? Or do you just use the dye and water alone?

We zip tied bunches onto wooden clothes pins that we got from Wally world, $4.88/100. Seems to work pretty well.
